Former TikTok, MX Player executive Nikhil Gandhi launches VYYB AI. Gandhi has over 26 years of leadership experience across media and technology. He has also held leadership roles at The Walt Disney Company and Times Network. 14 Oct 2026 11:51 IST Nikhil Gandhi, who has held leadership roles at TikTok, MX Player, The Walt Disney Company and Times Network, has launched VYYB AI Technologies, a UAE-based AI venture focused on commercial spaces. Headquartered at the DIFC Dubai AI Campus, VYYB AI is starting with commercial background music. The company is developing AI-based solutions aimed at managing elements such as music, climate and scent in physical environments. Gandhi has spent more than 26 years in corporate leadership, working across user growth, monetisation, advertising, distribution and commercial strategy. In 2026, he also completed the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Applied Agentic AI programme. The idea behind VYYB AI is to use AI to make sensory elements in commercial spaces more responsive to their context. The company is developing separate products for music, climate and scent, with the longer-term plan of bringing them together under a proposed platform. Its first offering, VYYB SONIC, focuses on AI-powered commercial background music management. VYYB AI is also developing VYYB ATMOS for climate optimisation and VYYB AURA for contextual scenting. Commenting on his move into entrepreneurship, Nikhil Gandhi, founder and CEO, VYYB AI Technologies, said: "Throughout my career, I have seen how technology can change the way businesses operate and engage with people. With VYYB AI, I saw an opportunity to apply that thinking to physical spaces, an area where I believe there is still considerable scope for innovation." He added, "VYYB AI is made in the UAE and built for the world. We are building from Dubai with a clear ambition to help commercial spaces become more responsive to their customers and more consistent with their brand. We begin with music through VYYB SONIC, with each solution grounded in what operators can use in their own venues."

Poundland in rescue talks as owners seek buyer.

Poundland in rescue talks as owners seek buyer. 3 hours ago Retail chain Poundland is in talks with potential buyers as it seeks a rescue deal, it has confirmed. Executives are working with an Irish property development group on a management buyout, as first reported by Sky News. But a union representing shopworkers warned that the retailer could fall into administration if that deal falls through, putting thousands of jobs at risk. This outcome would be "a disaster for our members", the Usdaw union said. Poundland has about 600 stores in the UK and Ireland, and 12,000 employees. The chain has been struggling for a number of years due to pressures including rising costs and competition. However, it expects sales to have grown more than 3% in 2026 compared with the previous year, which managing director Barry Williams said earlier this month was evidence that its recovery plan "is working". The retailer was sold for £1 last summer by previous owner Pepco to US investment firm Gordon Brothers. The current owners are in the process of seeking buyers, with the Poundland management attempting a buyout, a spokesman said. Mr Williams, along with the firm's leadership team and Andy Bond, a former chairman of Pepco, have been working with Irish real estate firm Martin Property Group on a management buyout. Martin Property Group is the management team's "preferred partner", the spokesman said, but the team will "work with whoever can deliver the best result for the business, colleagues and suppliers and build on the successful recovery that's already taking shape," he added. However, Bally Auluk, a national officer at Usdaw, said there are "deep concerns that the business could go into administration" should this buyout fail. "We are aware that a management buy-out has been attempted and we are told that their offers are being turned down," he added. A Poundland source disputed this, however, saying the Martin Property Group is part of the sale process and remains the management team's preferred partner. Retail analyst Catherine Shuttleworth said there were "tough times" on the High Street for all retailers. She said retailers were struggling with "significantly subdued consumer confidence as prices continue to rise" due to higher fuel costs. Poundland itself faces intense competition from rivals including B&M, Aldi, Lidl and from online retailers including Temu and TikTok Shop. The business "lost its strong £1 identity leaving shoppers to think it was getting too expensive", Shuttleworth said, and a costly expansion into clothing and frozen food under past management had not been successful. However, increased sales this year showed a deal with Mr Williams as boss "would make good sense", she added.

A total of 11 team members from Otto Media and TikTok were involved in organizing the program and managing its on-site execution, reflecting the strong partnership between the two parties in creator development and content ecosystem building. Across the six-day program, the camp combined platform engagement, professional development, and social interaction to create a more comprehensive learning experience for participants. Published Oct 12, 2026, 06:15 PM Updated Oct 12, 2026, 09:25 PM SINGAPORE - Artificial intelligence is set to continue its growth and may even surpass some human capabilities, but what matters is how it can unlock value for businesses and society, said the chief executives of three major tech companies. TikTok CEO Chew Shou Zi said there is a "non-zero chance" that AI could surpass humans in certain ways in the future, but he also noted the importance of human judgment and creativity even as AI becomes more widely used. They were speaking on panels at the inaugural DBS Asia Future Forward Conference held at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre on Oct 12. Organised by DBS, the new flagship event brings together global leaders across technology, business and investment to examine the forces shaping the region's future.
