Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted.
  • Experience working effectively with high school students in a team environment is required.
  • Demonstrated experience providing direct college preparation services to students in grades 9 through 12 is essential.
  • Experience working with low-income, first-generation high school students from diverse backgrounds is essential.
  • Knowledge of unit policies and federal grant guidelines, with the ability to articulate them in oral and written communication, is required.
  • Outstanding interpersonal verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills are required.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are required.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines is required.
  • A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check are required.
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint criminal background checks are required.

Responsibilities
  • Organize, develop, and implement social, educational, and service-learning programs and activities for Upward Bound participants.
  • Conduct student recruitment and programming for the grant-determined school district population, including parent and student events and engagement with community stakeholders.
  • Advise, tutor, or refer participants to student services, including high school course selection, college readiness, financial aid, health and wellness, career services, academic advising, student leadership, and diversity and inclusion resources.
  • Develop and implement academic-year and summer residential programming in compliance with federal grant guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with school districts, community partners, and campus and University-wide offices.
  • Serve as the Penn State on-site program liaison and contact with school district personnel.
  • Assist non-senior students with completing rigorous coursework and advancing to the next grade level each year.
  • Assist senior students with graduating from high school on time.
  • Assist senior students with matriculating to postsecondary education for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
  • Track the postsecondary progress of students served for six years after high school graduation.
  • Collaborate with school district personnel to assist participants with scheduling high school courses and provide academic counseling and support services.
  • Review and monitor participants' academic progress to guide grade-level-appropriate activities focused on postsecondary goals and career development.
  • Assist participants with applying to postsecondary education and navigating the enrollment process.
  • Provide information about financial aid and assist participants with applying for aid and interpreting financial aid packages.
  • Coordinate and chaperone postsecondary campus tours and career-focused field trips.
  • Develop and maintain a network of professional relationships with postsecondary institutions and community agencies.
  • Operate a motor vehicle as part of the job duties.

  • Knowledge of and experience with federally funded TRIO programs is preferred.
