Brown & Brown misses Q3 estimates with $1.73B revenue as specialty distribution headwinds bite

Brown & Brown's shares fell after its third-quarter results missed Wall Street expectations. Revenue was $1.73 billion, up 7.4% year on year but 2.1% below analyst estimates of $1.76 billion. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.07 against expectations of $1.08. Adjusted EBITDA was $548 million, a 9.1% miss against estimates of $603.1 million. Organic revenue rose 1.2%. Chief executive officer Powell Brown cited "incrementally more downward pressure" in specialty distribution, including competition from admitted carriers and delayed onboarding of lender-placed programs. A quiet storm season also cut flood claims processing revenue. The retail segment improved on stronger team collaboration and more net new business. The stock trades at $66.75, down from $71.08 before the earnings. Its market capitalisation is $21.85 billion.

Brown & Brown's core growth stalls as insurer payments mask a 0.3% organic revenue decline

Brown & Brown (NYSE: BRO), an insurance broker, faces pressure as falling catastrophe-property rates cut commissions. First-half 2026 organic revenue fell 0.3%, though it rose 1.6% when contingent commissions from insurers are included. Contingent commissions, which depend largely on insurers' underwriting profits, have cushioned the decline. The company's Specialty Distribution division shrank 3.5% in the second quarter, while Retail grew 1.5%. The August 2025 acquisition of RSC Topco, Inc. lifted reported revenue 30.4%. Quarterly interest expense rose to $100 million from $51 million, and diluted shares increased to 334 million from 293 million. The stock trades at about 13x forward earnings, against 20x trailing.
