Requirements
  • High school education or GED is required.
  • One of the following certifications is required: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
  • Current Basic Life Support/Healthcare Provider status meeting American Heart Association standards is required.
  • At least two years of experience performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), Holter monitors, and treadmill tests, or cardiac sonography, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Cardiology Manager in monitoring the day-to-day operations of Cardiology, Cardiac Sonography, and the Cardiovascular Diagnostic Outpatient Center (CDOC).
  • Resolve employee concerns and provide input to the Cardiology Manager regarding employees' compliance with job duties.
  • Ensure the quality of the department's work product, participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), monitor department expenses against budget guidelines, maintain working relationships with physicians to support patient care, and comply with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Cardiology Manager to develop staff schedules and function as the Cardiology Manager in their absence.
  • Maintain proficiency, job knowledge, and required licenses, registrations, and certifications in non-invasive diagnostic cardiac procedures.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to patients served by Cardiology, Cardiac Sonography, and the Cardiovascular Diagnostic Outpatient Center.
  • Schedule employees for appropriate shifts and manage department schedules; provide feedback to the Cardiology Manager about staff performance and coach or counsel employees as needed.
  • Orient new employees and assist the Cardiology Manager in monitoring employee compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), HIPAA, assigned duties, and corporate compliance requirements.
  • Monitor work quality and productivity across the departments, and monitor labor and capital expenses, including overtime, to stay within budget parameters.
  • Assist in maintaining a quality work product, attend continuing education as necessary, and prepare staff in-services.
  • Provide input on new or revised department policies and procedures and assist with peer review for Cardiology physicians.
  • Work on special projects, participate in committees, and attend meetings as assigned.
  • Assist the Cardiology Manager with the interview and hiring process by evaluating applications, making recommendations, scheduling interviews, and helping prepare administrative paperwork.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and train current, new, and registry staff.
  • Maintain daily employee time and attendance records and records for leaves of absence, paid time off, family leave, and sick leave; notify the Cardiology Manager of policy infractions.
  • Assist the Cardiology Manager with attendance-related disciplinary actions and maintain staff training competencies, competency grids, and annual competency training records.
  • Ensure new and registry staff complete competencies on time.
  • Participate in the departments' Continuous Quality Improvement Program, maintain documentation, and prepare quarterly and year-end reports.
  • Provide documentation, input, and training updates for employees' annual performance evaluations.
  • Work with the Cardiology Manager to carry out action plans and training, and maintain working relationships with physicians and hospital staff in the Cardiovascular Diagnostic Outpatient Center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
