Lead Simulation Engineer

Job Summary

May Mobility is entering an exciting phase of growth as we expand our first-of-its-kind autonomous shuttle and mobility services across the nation. We believe strongly in the need to demonstrate the safety of our Autonomous Vehicles, so that people can ride with confidence.  Simulation-based testing is a big part of our strategy to achieve this.  We are looking to add an experienced Lead Simulation Engineer to our Product Safety organization.

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers in developing simulation tests to validate the May autonomous driving software's performance and safety
• Collaborate with systems, safety, testing, and autonomy engineering teams to ensure simulation coverage of common and rare driving scenarios and ODD elements
• Drive traceability between simulations and scenario and ODD database
• Analyze simulation results to identify performance trends, uncover potential issues, and provide insights for improvements
• Coordinate with Testing and Validation team to ensure simulation results are consistent with real-world testing
• Develop methods for evaluating simulation performance against safety performance indicators 
• Identify and drive improvements to simulation technology and infrastructure 
• Establish and oversee processes for high-quality simulation development.

• Strong understanding of autonomous driving technology
• Demonstrated experience with autonomous vehicle simulation platforms
• Ability to prioritize and plan complex deliverables
• Willingness to adapt role and responsibilities to respond to changing simulation needs
• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical teams
• Familiarity with product and software life cycles
• Comfortable continuously learning new software and workflows

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:

Required

• B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent degree 
• 5+ year’s experience in automotive testing and 2+ year’s experience creating simulations for autonomous driving software
• Coding and/or scripting experience in high level languages (Java / Python)

Desirable

• Experience testing vehicles or autonomous robotic systems
• Previous contributions to engineering processes
• Experience using Linux-based operating systems
• Knowledge of autonomous vehicle safety standards
• Familiarity with Applied Intuition simulation software suite a plus 
• Experience working in a startup

Physical Requirements

• Standard office working conditions which includes but is not limited to:
• Prolonged sitting
• Prolonged standing
• Prolonged computer use
• Travel required? -  Moderate: 11%-25%
