Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
A current, valid Illinois driver’s license of the proper classification is required.
Successful completion of a Paramedic program and a current, valid Illinois Department of Public Health License are required.
The employee must be capable of completing continuing education and testing requirements in the assigned system.
State of Illinois Firefighter Certifications are required for Firefighter applicants.
Successful completion of a professional and criminal background check is required.
The candidate must successfully pass pre-employment testing, including a Fit for Duty Physical, Drug Screening, and Agility and Lifting Evaluation.
Responsibilities
Respond promptly to emergency calls and assess patients’ medical needs.
Administer appropriate medical treatment and interventions according to established protocols and guidelines.
Safely lift, transfer, and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
Communicate with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other emergency responders to coordinate patient care.
Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation concerning transport, equipment inspection, supply usage, incidents, and other operational documentation.
Maintain attendance and documentation demonstrating compliance with PSI and/or Department of Health continuing education and licensure requirements.
Maintain a clean and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and a professional, pleasant, and polite demeanor while on duty.
Inspect and promptly report damage, deficiencies, safety issues, or other problems with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment, supplies, or other matters relevant to safe and efficient operations; assist with vehicle, equipment, and station maintenance.
Participate in public education, public relations, public health and safety programs, emergency medical service training, fire training, fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, extrication, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, instruction, and other activities benefiting the company, contracting communities, or general public.
Respond to fire alarms with the assigned company; lay and connect hose; maintain pumping apparatus; hold nozzles and direct water streams; raise and climb ladders; ventilate burning structures; and enter buildings to evacuate occupants.
Operate fire operation and rescue equipment, including portable fire extinguishers, pike poles, hand lines, smoke ejectors, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, aerial ladder equipment, and emergency medical equipment.
Preserve evidence at fire scenes.
Search for and rescue individuals in hazardous environments, including collapsed buildings, auto accidents, hazardous material spills, and confined spaces.
Attend specialized instruction in firefighting and emergency medical techniques; perform drills with other engine company staff; learn the city layout, established response routes, and hydrant system; and prepare and maintain firefighting preplan drawings and schematics.
Assist in training fire department personnel in emergency medical techniques and medical field activities; maintain inventory of drugs and controlled substances.
Desired Qualifications
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is preferred but not required.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals certification is preferred but not required.
Prehospital Trauma Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, or International Trauma Life Support certification is preferred but not required.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor certification is preferred but not required.

What You’ll Do:
As a Paramedic at Paramedic Services of Illinois, you will be an integral part of our team, responding to emergency calls and providing essential medical care to patients in need. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Firefighter/Paramedic employees assist in the training of fire department personnel in emergency medical techniques and medical field activities; maintain inventory of drugs and controlled substances.
