Requirements
  • Assistant Teaching Professor candidates should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; alternatively, the assistant teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter.
  • Associate Teaching Professor candidates should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter. Alternatively, the associate teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of senior lecturer or instructor; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the assistant teaching professor.
  • Teaching Professor candidates should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of associate teaching professor; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the associate.
Responsibilities
  • Curriculum development as General Chemistry Lecture Coordinator.
  • Selection, hiring, training, and supervision of teaching assistants (TAs) and related administrative work.
  • Selection, training, and supervision of undergraduate learning assistants (LAs).
  • Organization of graded assignments, including exam planning across multiple sections of general chemistry.
  • Course administration.
  • Faculty mentoring.
  • Coordinate with other faculty teaching related courses, such as the general chemistry laboratory director, and teach general chemistry courses and other courses as needed.
  • Demonstrated experience with teaching large lecture courses, coordinating the efforts of several teaching staff, and coordinating teaching assistants and faculty across multiple sections of a course.
Desired Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in an academic field related to teaching specialization for the Associate and Teaching Professor tracks; or for the Assistant Teaching Professor track, the terminal degree is not strictly required.
  • Demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of senior lecturer or instructor (for the Associate Teaching Professor track).
  • Evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the Assistant Teaching Professor (for Teaching Professor track).
