About the Job

Requirements

  • A Secret clearance is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, engineering, or a related technical discipline and 12–15 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree in a related field and 10–13 years of relevant experience is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing, building, and operating end-to-end artificial intelligence and machine learning infrastructure, including data ingestion, feature pipelines, model training, and model serving, in production environments is required.
  • Expert-level proficiency with at least two of TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX, or Scikit-Learn is required, including designing deep-learning architectures such as convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, and Transformers, and using model-explainability methods such as SHAP, LIME, and counterfactuals.
  • Experience building end-to-end machine learning operations pipelines with continuous integration and continuous delivery, automated testing, model versioning, and monitoring using Kubeflow, MLflow, TFX, or similar tools, and deploying models in production and development environments is required.
  • Experience instrumenting pipelines with Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch or Stackdriver, and OpenTelemetry, and implementing automated model-drift detection, data-quality checks, and compliance audit trails is required.
  • The ability to translate complex business problems, including computer vision, natural language processing, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection, into robust machine learning solutions and evaluate them against domain-specific key performance indicators such as accuracy, latency, cost, and safety is required.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or Java are required.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking are required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with generative artificial intelligence models, including prompt engineering, chain-of-thought reasoning, and natural language processing tasks such as entity extraction, summarization, and semantic search, are required.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers, leading cross-functional artificial intelligence projects, and clearly communicating technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences is required.
  • Excellent documentation and presentation skills are required.
  • Familiarity with deployment into virtualized and containerized environments such as VMware, Docker, and Kubernetes is required.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to own initiative execution from start to finish while adapting to evolving curriculum needs and mission priorities are required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary artificial intelligence and machine learning engineering subject matter expert for AIDETL interns and staff, providing authoritative guidance on artificial intelligence strategy, architecture, policy, and implementation aligned with mission objectives.
  • Provide expert-level training, workshops, and briefings to AIDETL interns on artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts and best practices.
  • Assist in AIDETL curriculum development.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines for efficient data processing and model training.
  • Train and tune algorithms to improve predictive accuracy and decision-support tasks.
  • Deploy models into production environments while ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Identify and integrate appropriate commercial off-the-shelf, government, and custom tools within established frameworks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and security requirements.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
  • Develop and implement best practices for model development and deployment.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies and standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyze system performance metrics and recommend improvements for efficiency and scalability.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 12 years of experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience leading and managing Agile Scrum teams, with strong familiarity with Agile Scrum processes and methodologies.
  • Experience supporting artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions across multi-enclave Department of Defense environments.
  • Experience implementing automated model validation, bias detection, and drift-monitoring frameworks.
  • Experience integrating artificial intelligence services into enterprise application programming interfaces and microservices architectures.
  • Experience optimizing graphics processing unit-based training and inference pipelines.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale analytics, data platforms, or artificial intelligence modernization initiatives.
  • Publications, patents, or open-source contributions demonstrating thought leadership in emerging artificial intelligence areas such as foundation models, reinforcement learning, federated learning, or privacy-preserving machine learning.
  • Familiarity with evaluation and observability tools for artificial intelligence agents, such as LangSmith, OpenAI Evals, or custom telemetry systems.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence service integration such as NIMS, Azure OpenAI, Bedrock, and Google Cloud Vertex AI.
  • Hands-on graphics processing unit programming experience for machine learning workloads using CUDA, PyTorch, or TensorFlow, including optimization for performance and efficiency.
  • Working knowledge of large language models and agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, A2A, MCP, or AutoGen.
