About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 to 8 years in HR with a background in business partnering, including experience as an embedded partner to a leadership team, coaching employees and managers through difficult moments, and navigating complex employee relations issues and organizational changes with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Have supported engineers, researchers, or technical leaders at a technology company and earned their trust; experience inside an AI or applied-AI company is a plus.
  • Coach managers rather than solve their problems for them, and demonstrate leaders who improved as a result.
  • Be able to read a compensation band, explain a leveling decision, hold the line on an off-cycle request, and assess when an exception might be warranted.
  • Have run at least one team-level restructure or leader transition from design through communications and follow-through.
  • Understand organizational systems before designing interventions, distinguish symptoms from causes, and resist quick fixes.
  • Be comfortable operating without a playbook and creating one.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the first call for managers across the company on team performance, structure, hiring plans, and difficult conversations; listen, provide evidence-backed coaching, and guide the business forward.
  • Coach managers and individual contributors through growth, feedback, and transitions, improving the effectiveness of people who lead teams.
  • Help define evidence-backed frameworks that enable the company to scale and ensure its systems are designed fairly and thoughtfully.
  • Advise managers on offers, promotions, and merit decisions based on the company's compensation bands and philosophy.
  • Lead team-level organizational design and change, including design, sequencing, communications, and follow-through when a team restructures, a leader changes, or scope shifts.
  • Use engagement data, attrition signals, and information from one-on-ones to identify and communicate organizational conditions to the leadership team.
  • Use AI tools daily for work such as documentation, analysis, and preparation, and create repeatable systems with them.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting engineers, researchers, or technical leaders at a technology company; experience inside an AI or applied-AI company is a plus.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment.

About the company

Distyl AI builds AI systems for large enterprises that need to automate complex business operations rather than isolated tasks. Its Distillery platform brings the tools for creating and running those systems together, while engineers and researchers work alongside customers to define the problem and put solutions into use. The company combines purpose-built software with implementation engagements across telecom, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing and retail, covering work such as customer service and supply chain decisions. Customers buy tailored enterprise deployments that connect business expertise with AI tools and are measured against operational outcomes. Founded in 2022, Distyl AI is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

What believers are saying

  • Production exposure is substantial: Distyl reports its AI systems reach more than 150 million end users.
  • Family coverage reduces benefit costs: Distyl covers 100% of medical, dental and vision insurance for employees and dependents.
  • An engineer stays hands-on: Distyl's Broadhurst leads a small team while continuing to code and ship.

What critics are saying

  • Office attendance limits flexibility: Distyl requires engineers and most other roles in SF or NYC three days weekly.
  • Fixes carry regression risk: Distyl describes AI changes improving one behavior while degrading another in production.
  • Technical approaches keep changing: Distyl's Broadhurst describes discarding assumptions as models and tools reshape engineering work.

What makes Distyl AI unique

  • Audit trails are built in: Distillery traces AI decisions to the exact knowledge state used at runtime.
  • Testing starts without customer benchmarks: Weave generates synthetic evaluation sets from task descriptions before optimizing AI systems.
  • Data stays in place: Context Mesh reads existing enterprise systems and shares agent decisions without migration.
