Requirements
  • Must be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist, requiring graduation from an accredited Recreational Therapy program and certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
  • Ability to shift smoothly and rapidly between dissimilar tasks.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle potentially emergency situations.
Responsibilities
  • Uphold the Standards for the Practice of Recreational Therapy and the Recreational Therapy Code of Ethics, along with PrairieCare’s policies and procedures.
  • Plan and lead recreational therapy and therapeutic groups.
  • Meet with patients to assess their needs and develop personalized recreational therapy interventions.
  • Provide care oriented toward gender, cultural differences, and age-appropriate needs.
  • Complete job training through consultation with recreational therapy staff and other therapists, ongoing in-service and orientation programs, and approved off-site continuing education programs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Student field placement in psychosocial recreational therapy is strongly preferred for newly graduated candidates.
