Airwallex awards $1M to 10 Australian AI startups in inaugural Latitude 37 cohort

Airwallex has selected 10 Australian AI startups for the inaugural Latitude 37 cohort, awarding each company $100,000 in equity-free funding. The programme, totalling $1 million, supports emerging companies across sectors including financial services, robotics, aerospace, and transport. Chosen from hundreds of applications, the cohort includes startups like Blank Robotics, which deploys modular robots for grocery retail, and Geospan, which uses real-time road hazard detection for autonomous vehicles. Each participant receives access to Airwallex's global network and immersion visits to San Francisco and Singapore. The selection panel included representatives from Square Peg, Blackbird Ventures, and Airtree. Named after Melbourne's latitude, where Airwallex was founded in 2015, the programme launched in April 2025. It is funded through Airwallex Impact, the company's Pledge 1% initiative.

Airwallex invests over $40 million to drive UAE expansion.

Airwallex invests over $40 million to drive UAE expansion. Airwallex, a leading global AI-native financial platform, has announced it is investing $43 million in the UAE over the next five years, as part of its wider expansion across the UK and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). The investment will fund new financial and agentic products and expand Airwallex's presence in the UAE, with new leadership roles to oversee local operations and support the company's broader Middle East expansion. The first phase is already underway as Airwallex expands its Dubai office and has made several new hires already this year, drawing on the depth of local and international talent based in the UAE. The investment reflects the scale of opportunity in the UAE's digital-first economy. The country's eCommerce market is forecast to reach US$21 billion by 2031, growing at a compound annual rate of 9.4% between 2024 and 2029. As more UAE businesses scale up, they need fast, flexible, and compliant multi-currency infrastructure to scale - precisely the gap this investment is designed to close. Airwallex has secured In-Principle Approval from the Central Bank of the UAE for licences for Stored Value Facilities and Retail Payment Services (Category II). It continues to work towards full approval to launch its services under these licences in 2026. Or Liban, Managing Director for the Middle East, Benelux and Nordics at Airwallex, said: "Businesses in the UAE are scaling into more markets and handling more currencies than ever, but too many are still held back by financial infrastructure built for a single one. This investment lets us close that gap. We're growing our Dubai team and building new products to meet the needs of the region's most ambitious companies, many of which are trading internationally from day one. This means embedding the right infrastructure from within the region, not around it." Airwallex has had a presence in the region since 2024, when it committed to obtaining the necessary licences to launch its products in the UAE and support the local ecosystem. Additionally, Airwallex's new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Pranav Sood, will speak at Abu Dhabi Finance Week in December about the company's regional investment and provide a different perspective on the modern Finance function. Airwallex raises $320M at $11B valuation, pivots to autonomous finance amid IPO uncertainty

Airwallex has raised $320 million in a Series H funding round led by Addition, alongside Baillie Gifford, T. Rowe Price, Amex Ventures, and Washington University in St. Louis. The round values the Australian fintech company at $11 billion, up from $8 billion in December. The company, which serves over 675,000 businesses with over $1 billion in annualised run rate revenue, is pivoting from cross-border payments to autonomous finance. It has launched T:0, an automated bookkeeping system, and Ari, an agentic consumer wallet. President Lucy Liu said Airwallex plans to be "IPO-ready" by year-end but noted "it's just not the best time" given market complexities. The company faces regulatory scrutiny in the US and Australia over data security and compliance concerns.

Airwallex and Air Corporate enable day-one payment readiness for Hong Kong startups with one-step setup

Air Corporate and Airwallex have launched a partnership allowing Hong Kong startups to complete company registration and payment account setup through a single application. Previously, founders had to separately incorporate their company and then apply for banking services, often resubmitting the same documentation. The new Expert package enables founders to move from incorporation to operational status in one to two weeks, compared to the typical weeks or months required with traditional banking. The partnership is sponsoring 10 founders monthly with a complimentary upgrade to the fully-managed Expert package. The service targets e-commerce brands, cross-border traders, and first-time founders expanding into Asia who need immediate transaction capability. Airwallex provides multi-currency accounts, local collection capabilities, and global payouts through its platform. The partnership is available to new Air Corporate clients registering companies in Hong Kong.
