What believers are saying

  • The ¥33 billion Shiga investment supports 1.4x capacity growth by 2028.
  • Open-space assembly layouts enable faster line changes and higher manufacturing flexibility.
  • Rooftop solar and better insulation can reduce operating costs and support bids.

What critics are saying

  • Toyota Industries, KUKA, JBT, and KION pressure Daifuku’s AGV share.
  • Underutilized Shiga capacity will compress margins if orders soften before 2028.
  • Relocation and commissioning errors will disrupt shipments and after-sales service simultaneously.

What makes Daifuku unique

  • Daifuku is expanding Shiga Works into a larger AGV and service hub.
  • Building M combines AGV assembly with after-sales parts operations.
  • Daifuku’s lineup now includes SOTR AGVs for pallet, case, and piece handling.
