Requirements
  • A Class A commercial driver's license is required.
  • Pipeline, highway, and alcohol and drug testing requirements apply.
  • CIP certification is required.
  • Must be a fully qualified journeyman line mechanic or have completed a qualifying one-year line school.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain electric distribution and transmission systems, including overhead and underground facilities and other utilities.
  • Install, change, transfer, move, and remove poles, line hardware, guys, transformers, lightning arresters, streetlight equipment, electrical cable, gas pipe, cross-arms, energized conductors, insulators, conduit, capacitor bank controls, and other electrical materials and accessories.
  • Install, use, and remove protective equipment and devices on energized electric circuits of all voltages.
  • Work with hot-line tools and perform work on energized circuits.
  • Erect, remove, and repair steel towers and associated electrical equipment.
  • Use electrical instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and fault locators.
  • Read meters and operate switches and cutouts in transmission and distribution circuits.
  • Patrol transmission and distribution circuits and inspect poles, towers, conductors, and equipment, including climbing inspections.
  • Drive the truck and maintain responsibility for the truck, tools, and equipment carried on it.
  • Operate equipment associated with the work being performed.
  • Locate underground gas and electric facilities, including performing locates where no locator or leak surveyor exists.
  • Contact property owners regarding tree-trimming matters and perform minor tree trimming, brush cutting, and removal of line detriments as needed.
  • Complete written fieldwork reports and properly account for materials and time for each job.
  • Perform public contacts when necessary.
  • Lead, train, and instruct employees in their work, including switching.
  • Install, remove, change, and turn on or off existing meters, including single-phase, three-phase self-contained, and network meters through Class 320.
  • Set voltage-recording devices and change bill groups on demand meters as needed.
  • Perform switching, diagnostics, and service restoration in company and customer substations.
  • Analyze and communicate relay targets, amp readings, voltage readings, breaker or recloser counts, voltage-regulator information, and load-tap-changer information.
  • Operate substation equipment, including breakers, reclosers, load tap changers, and voltage-regulator controls, and install fuses.
