Requirements
  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CRT - Certified Radiologic Technologist current New York State licensure upon hire required
  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with CE credits upon hire required
Responsibilities
  • In an inpatient setting, sets up and utilizes all MRI equipment including imaging coils, patient monitoring systems, and related articles; evaluate image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil problems and scan parameters; identify and compensate for imaging artifacts; review MRI registration and screening form thoroughly in order to confirm safe access into magnet room.
  • Assists in training new MRI technologists and students.
  • Performs all filming, archiving and PACS network data management for each patient scanned.
  • Retrieves old MRI data for restoration and filming or networking.
  • Master new techniques with each subsequent scanner upgrade.
  • Receives training in as well as regular direct supervision or guidance from more senior technologists, including orientation to the Departments infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures and routines.
  • Responsible for scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paper and computer work, and discharging the patient from the MRI department with appropriate post MRI instructions.
  • Identifies patient service requirements.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
  • Prepares patient for radiological/MRI procedures by positioning patient, adjusts immobilization devices, moves equipment into specified position, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider’s orders.
  • Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them, with other pertinent patient information, for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Maintains production and quality of MRI images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors by adhering to MRI safety policies specific to MRI Zones.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
  • Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • May train new employees or lead day-to-day work activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
