Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Possess a current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of practice or a temporary Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Hold current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient-care needs.
  • Have adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision.
  • Possess fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and the ability to grasp and handle objects.
  • Use proper body mechanics to assist patients with ambulating and transferring in and out of bed, a chair, or a wheelchair.
  • Be able to lift up to 75 pounds when required.
  • Use standard precautions due to the threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or by telephone.
  • Use a personal computer periodically when required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care within the Licensed Practical Nurse's scope of practice in an assigned area under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designated supervisor.
  • Utilize the medication administration system to provide patients with their medication under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide patients with information about their medication under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Communicate and provide updates to the Registered Nurse and other providers regarding perceived reactions or changes in a patient's condition.
  • Accurately record medications provided to patients and document vital signs, completed procedures, and equipment utilized.
  • Monitor patients for safety in the department.
  • Attend department meetings and educational sessions.
  • Assist in training new department staff.
  • Participate in activities that improve professional quality indicators and patient outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
Desired Qualifications
  • PEARS certification is preferred.
  • Completion of CPI is preferred.
