Requirements
  • A Doctorate of Audiology (PhD or AuD) is required.
  • State of Illinois licensure in Audiology and an Illinois Hearing Aid Dispensing License are required.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat patients exhibiting or at risk for hearing and/or vestibular disorders.
  • Evaluate auditory and vestibular function through standard audiometrics, electronystagmography, auditory evoked potentials, electrocochleography, and middle ear analysis.
  • Interpret test results and establish and carry out Plans of Treatment, including medical referral, hearing aid dispensing, or recommendations for further testing.
  • Evaluate hearing aid candidacy and dispense hearing aids.
  • Counsel and instruct patients through telephone calls and office visits, describe pricing, and refer patients to the Audiology Assistant for payment options.
  • Work with pediatric through geriatric age groups and refer patients to alternate facilities and professionals as necessary.
  • Document evaluations, recommendations, and treatments through written reports and progress notes, and forward reports of findings to referral sources or other referring parties.
  • Market self, the profession, and the department through participation in health fairs, trade shows, community presentations, and community service organizations.
  • Work with regional industry to complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hearing Conservation Programs.
  • Prepare and submit paperwork to obtain funding for qualifying patients, including IDPA, DSCC, and DORS.
  • Perform cerumen removal procedures.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain continuing education units for licensure.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Attend annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration and other mandatory in-services, and keep current with applicable policy, procedure, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration manuals.
  • Conduct comprehensive hearing evaluations and diagnostic tests.
  • Fit, program, and maintain hearing aids and other assistive listening devices.
  • Perform related work and other duties as assigned.
