About the Job

Requirements

  • Production coding experience in an industry-standard language such as Python, Go, Java, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience running production systems at scale, including on-call ownership, incident response, and designing for reliability and operability.
  • Experience with service-level indicator, service-level objective, and error-budget practices, or clear aptitude and appetite to own them.
  • Experience with white-box and black-box monitoring, service-level-objective-based alerting, and telemetry using tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Datadog, or Dynatrace, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with Unix-like systems and infrastructure automation and tooling such as Kubernetes, Terraform, and continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Strong systems thinking involving interfaces, contracts, failure modes, and interactions at scale.
  • Fluency directing artificial intelligence tools to perform real engineering work, with sound judgment about where artificial intelligence applies and where deep human expertise is required.
  • A security-first mindset that integrates risk judgment from design through production.
  • Clear, direct communication and calm ownership during high-severity events.
  • An outcome-oriented approach focused on reliability, impact, and cost rather than activity.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer reliability into enterprise-scale platforms by writing production software, including automation, control loops, self-healing systems, and tooling that removes manual operations.
  • Build systems using declarative, intent-based design by modeling desired state as data in a trusted source of truth and continuously reconciling reality to it.
  • Instrument, collect, and reason over telemetry and state data to drive detection, diagnosis, and closed-loop remediation.
  • Define and operationalize service-level indicators and service-level objectives with stakeholders, and implement service-level-objective-based alerting, telemetry standards, and actionable observability.
  • Own services end-to-end, including accountability for reliability, performance, security, and cost, while building operability and observability in from the start.
  • Share an on-call rotation and act as a technical leader during major incidents by driving triage, mitigation, communications, and blameless post-incident reviews, then engineering durable fixes.
  • Reduce toil measurably through automation and better engineering by coding out repeated manual work.
  • Use artificial intelligence across the software development lifecycle for assisted development, code review, test generation, incident analysis, and root-cause analysis while applying secure coding, peer review, automated testing, and validation standards.
  • Decompose ambiguous reliability problems into clear, executable work for yourself and artificial intelligence agents, and integrate the results into coherent, production-ready systems.
  • Set reliability standards and raise the engineering bar across the team and partner organizations.
  • Apply security and operational-risk judgment throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Desired Qualifications

  • Networking depth in routing, switching, security, and packet or flow analysis, or experience operating network-adjacent platforms.
  • Experience across multiple infrastructure domains or programming languages.
  • Ongoing artificial intelligence skill development, such as context engineering, prompt engineering, or agent orchestration, and use of artificial intelligence to redesign workflows for measurable impact.
  • Prior experience in regulated or large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Experience establishing engineering culture.

About the Company

JP Morgan Chase

Runs a consumer bank and an investment bank

JPMorgan Chase runs the largest bank in the United States, which serves households and small businesses as Chase and large companies, governments, and investors as J.P. Morgan. During the 2008 financial crisis it bought the failing investment bank Bear Stearns and lender Washington Mutual, and in 2023 it took over First Republic Bank after regulators seized it. Chase takes deposits and earns interest on credit cards, mortgages, and car loans, while the investment side earns fees for advising on mergers, raising money for companies, trading stocks and bonds, and managing wealth. Formed in a 2000 merger, JPMorgan Chase traces its roots to 1799 and is based in New York City.
