Requirements
  • 5+ years of mechanical design of fabricated, welded, or precision-machined structures and assemblies with real structural requirements
  • FEA proficiency (static, buckling, basic dynamics) and the judgment to know when hand calculations suffice
  • Deep sheet metal, weldment, and machined-part DFM: process constraints, distortion, and fixturing
  • GD&T to ASME Y14.5, including stack-up analysis on multi-part assemblies
  • CAD mastery (Fusion preferred), including large-assembly management and drawing release discipline
Responsibilities
  • Complete fabrication drawing packages — GD&T, weld callouts, finish callouts — released for the active product line from customer and reference geometry
  • Structural analysis baseline complete for the governing load cases — static, handling, and transport — with margins documented
  • Tolerance stack analyses validated against first articles for the critical interfaces, with corrective design or process changes closed
  • Designs optimized with Manufacturing Engineering for distortion control, fixturability, and assembly at rate
  • Products structurally qualified with customer-ready analysis and physical test reports; design-for-rate improvements — part count, weld length, setup reduction — delivering measurable cost reduction against the factory model
  • Design impact of next-generation product variants assessed with tooling implications quantified
Desired Qualifications
  • Shock, vibration, or environmental qualification experience preferred

Foundational Industries

View

Foundational Industries builds an AI-native automation platform that runs autonomous factories for industrial manufacturing. Its system designs, operates, and finances facilities powered by AI-enabled robotics, using multi-agent robotic arm coordination and a unified AI-native operating layer to connect design through final product. It differentiates itself by delivering end-to-end, reconfigurable, autonomy-first factories and by partnering with AI-robotics providers to offer procurement solutions that raise automation density and support domestic production. The goal is to make reindustrialization practical and competitive by enabling high-quality, domestically produced goods at scale.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Data-center hardware demand creates a near-term, high-value manufacturing entry point.
  • Performance-based contracting lowers adoption friction for manufacturers modernizing existing lines.
  • Edge learning and sensor fusion improve automation density and process adaptation over time.

What critics are saying

  • Siemens and IFS already sell industrial AI with lower-risk deployment paths.
  • A $25 million seed round underfunds factory buildout and capex overruns.
  • Reconfiguration errors can damage yield, uptime, and customer trust fast.

What makes Foundational Industries unique

  • AI-native factories connect design through production in one operating layer.
  • First wedge targets AI data-center hardware with specialized power and cooling.
  • Partners with AI-robotics providers and manufacturers for turnkey deployment and procurement.
