Requirements
  • Effectively interpret between American Sign Language and spoken English.
  • Maintain, as applicable, compliance with national, state, or local licensure and certification requirements.
  • Adhere to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Complete a background check and/or drug screening if required.
  • Accurately complete assigned tasks, duties, projects, and paperwork promptly and within approved guidelines.
  • Quickly learn and implement new and changing technologies.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly regulated environment.
  • Complete additional duties and assignments on an ongoing basis.
  • Understand deaf culture, the social experiences of deaf and hard-of-hearing persons, the history of education for students with various levels of hearing loss, and current pedagogical trends.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills when working with deaf and hard-of-hearing persons, communication service providers, instructors, and administrators.
  • Use computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, electronic scheduling, and the internet.
  • Work independently and within a team.
  • Use a computer or laptop running Windows 10 or higher for video remote interpreting.
  • Maintain a steady wired internet connection with minimum download speeds of 20 Mbps and upload speeds of 10 Mbps.
  • Use a webcam, USB wired headset, and a solid-color contrasting backdrop.
Responsibilities
  • Provide sign language interpretation services in a variety of settings.
  • Interpret for individuals who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, and/or oral.
  • Empower individuals to advocate for themselves and their needs.
