Requirements
  • A Master's or PhD in Human Development, Family Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field, completed by the October 1, 2026 start date.
  • Child Life Certification.
  • University-level teaching experience in Human Development, Family Studies, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Responsiveness to students.
  • Ability to provide substantive grading feedback within seven days.
  • Comfort with technology.
  • Ability to use online formats in new ways.
  • Ability to teach in different modalities.
  • A current curriculum vitae, cover letter, and Mission Alignment Statement must be attached at the time of application.
  • Ability to relocate to or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a three-credit independent study class and/or day class to undergraduate students.
  • Provide substantive feedback on graded work within seven days.
  • Teach content on child life practice in healthcare settings, including the profession's history and development within pediatric healthcare.
  • Teach students to use developmental theory to assess the effects of illness, injury, and healthcare experiences on children and families, identify stressors, and advocate for services that support overall well-being.
  • Explain patient- and family-centered care principles in relation to child life practice.
  • Teach historical and current perspectives on psychological preparation and therapeutic play during healthcare encounters and life-changing events.
  • Explain how child life specialists provide services to children and families.
  • Teach the child life profession's code of ethics, including beneficence, non-maleficence, respect for persons, autonomy, justice, veracity, fidelity, confidentiality, and competence.
  • Teach the importance of maintaining professional competence and staying current on best practices for children and their loved ones.
  • Teach ethical and professional standards applicable to certified child life specialists.
  • Explain official Association for Child Life Professionals and Child Life Certification Commission documents, including the Child Life Standards of Clinical Practice, Child Life Code of Ethics, and Academic Requirements for Child Life Certification.
  • Discuss pediatric grief related to death and loss.
