Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Counseling
  • Previous experience providing therapeutic mental health services to victims of violence including adults engaged in the legal or court system, immigration and other systems serving victims of violence
  • Professional License or Permit in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or Mental Health Counseling
  • Valid New York State Driver's License
  • New York State registered and insured vehicle
  • Clearance from New York State Child Abuse Registry
  • Clearance from the Office of Mental Health
  • Basic computer skills
  • Specialized training or coursework related to position
  • Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in meetings at client’s homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals
  • Sufficient flexibility to work with adults in a challenging and active environment
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional psychotherapy and case management services, crisis intervention, advocacy and referrals in the home, office or appropriate community settings to Onondaga County based victims of violence including survivors of crime, domestic violence, human trafficking and asylum cases
  • Provide effective trauma informed psychotherapy that promotes mental health stability and improvement
  • Therapeutic plans are based in a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment that is culturally sensitive, trauma informed and contextually aware
  • Goals include trauma resolution and increased follow through in legal proceedings and improved self-esteem and agency
  • Work collaboratively with lawyers from New York State’s Office of Victim Services (Syracuse office) to support victim’s successful engagement with legal services including family and criminal court, orders of protection, application for as and other legal protections needed for individual and family safety in community life
  • Provide training for clients in wellness and emotional modulation skills for effective court and community engagement
  • Train Office of Victim Services staff and volunteers in trauma informed care for increased understanding and self-care
  • Complete and submit all required written documentation according to program mandates
  • Maintain caseload according to program standard
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times
  • Attend and participate in all mandated program activities
  • Maintain guidelines established by the funding sources and Catholic Charities of Onondaga County policies and procedures
