TikTok Branding Summit SEA links cultural moments to sustained business growth. TikTok brought more than 150 representatives from over 60 brands together in Singapore for the inaugural Southeast Asia edition of its Branding Summit 2026. The event, held under the theme "Turn Moments into Momentum," focused on how brands can connect cultural relevance, audience insights, creative work and measurement across the consumer journey. TikTok used case studies from brands including Wardah and Vaseline to argue that cultural moments and community conversations can be translated into measurable business outcomes rather than treated only as short-term engagement spikes. From attention to full-funnel measurement. The summit reflects a broader change in how social platforms are pitching themselves to advertisers. Rather than positioning short-form video only as an awareness channel, platforms increasingly want marketers to connect creative engagement with consideration, conversion and repeat business. TikTok said brands can use platform signals to identify cultural occasions and community conversations, then combine those insights with creative and measurement tools across the funnel. The practical challenge is attribution. Cultural relevance may contribute to demand over time, while purchases can happen through separate marketplaces, retailer sites, physical stores or other digital channels. That makes measurement design important for marketers trying to distinguish genuine incremental impact from attention that would have occurred anyway. The Singapore summit follows other regional TikTok events focused on apps, gaming, creators and commerce as the platform expands its advertiser and business ecosystem across Southeast Asia.
TikTok partners with BBB National Programs to strengthen trust in digital advertising. New York, NY - September 24, 2026 - BBB National Programs, the non-profit home of U.S. independent industry self-regulation, today announced a collaboration between its National Advertising Division and TikTok that will strengthen accountability for advertising on the platform by creating a direct channel for the National Advertising Division to refer potential violations of TikTok's advertising policies for review. The collaboration represents a proactive action by TikTok, one of the world's leading platforms for digital discovery, creator content, and brand advertising, to connect its advertising standards with independent industry self-regulation. When the National Advertising Division hears a case involving advertising on TikTok, it will be able to share relevant case outcomes directly with TikTok's Ad Experience team for review against the platform's advertising policies. "Advertising is evolving and accountability needs to keep pace," said Eric D. Reicin, President and CEO, BBB National Programs. "By working with TikTok, one of the world's leading platforms for brand engagement, we are connecting independent advertising review more directly with the platforms where consumers encounter advertising every day. That is good for consumers, good for businesses, and good for trust in digital advertising." "When people see advertising on our platform, they expect the brands behind it to be accountable," said Francis Stones, Head of Global Brand Safety & Industry Relations, Global Business Solutions, TikTok. "That means making sure the standards we set for advertising are reflected in the content people encounter. Our collaboration with the National Advertising Division is an important step toward bringing independent review and platform accountability closer together and helping create a digital environment people can trust." BBB National Programs' National Advertising Division has monitored and reviewed national advertising for truthfulness and accuracy since 1971, providing an independent forum for resolving advertising disputes, monitoring the marketplace, supporting fair competition, and strengthening consumer trust. With multiple case choice options, the National Advertising Division can handle certain case types from receipt to resolution in 20 business days or less. This collaboration demonstrates how platforms can work with established self-regulatory systems to address emerging advertising challenges as quickly as the marketplace evolves. September 24, 2026

Spanish PM says unregulated AI could be 'devastating' * Tech * AFP * September 21, 2026 * 98 * 3 min Madrid - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday joined a chorus of calls to regulate AI as safety fears around the technology escalate, warning of potentially "devastating" consequences. The debate over the risks from artificial intelligence has intensified this month, with many of the industry's leading lights voicing support for more cooperation, regulation and slower development of the technology. Former employees of major AI companies have resigned warning of the technology's risks, even pointing to an existential threat to humanity. "If artificial intelligence is concentrated among a few companies and a handful of countries, its impact on shared prosperity, and therefore on the idea of democracy, will be very negative, if not devastating," Sanchez told an AI-focused event in Madrid. "We must act urgently, because unregulated, opaque artificial intelligence running wild... and in very few hands is the perfect recipe for disaster," added the Socialist leader. US President Donald Trump - with whom Sanchez has repeatedly clashed - has dismissed fears that AI could wipe out humanity and rejected calls to put greater controls around the fast-moving technology. Download Interactive Maps Sanchez, an outspoken critic of the power of big tech companies and their bosses, on Monday renewed his criticism of "techno-oligarchs" and urged international coordination on AI. "Self-regulation does not work", said Sanchez, calling for an AI "focused on well-being and collective prosperity that enables the building of fairer societies". He presented a 12-month plan aiming for "a new social contract for artificial intelligence" in Spain in cooperation with civil society. This agreement would have to offer "security to people in the face of the changes in work and in life that this technology will entail", he said. In February, Sanchez announced a plan to ban social media for under-16s, sparking a spat with X owner Elon Musk and Telegram founder Pavel Durov. His government has also asked the Spanish prosecutors to investigate X, Meta and TikTok for possible offences related to AI-generated child pornography. Discover more Stream History Documentaries
