Requirements
  • Board certification or active candidacy for certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
  • Current North Carolina medical license.
  • Hospital privileges at Mission Hospitals.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision and teaching for obstetrics and gynecology residents, family practice residents, fellows, and students.
  • Ability to supervise advanced practice providers of MAHEC Obstetrics and Gynecology in Mission Hospitals.
  • Ability to consult and collaborate with regional care providers regarding patient transfers and high-acuity situations.
  • Ability to provide training and didactics on general obstetric and gynecologic topics.
  • Ability to evaluate residents and learners using myTIPreport and provide face-to-face feedback.
  • Ability to work on-site regularly.
  • Ability to complete required OSHA training and follow safety precautions when working with blood or blood-borne pathogens.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of standing, walking, lifting or supporting patients, and handling objects up to 40 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Provide evidence-based, efficient patient care services and resident and student teaching, mentoring, and effective supervision.
  • Work flexibly within the obstetrics and gynecology department across outpatient, rural, and inpatient settings.
  • Supervise obstetrics and gynecology residents, family practice residents, fellows, and students at Mission Hospitals in labor and delivery, the emergency room, antepartum and postpartum settings, the operating room, and postoperative settings.
  • Supervise advanced practice providers of MAHEC Obstetrics and Gynecology in Mission Hospitals.
  • Consult and collaborate with regional care providers seeking care for patients requiring transport or with high-acuity situations.
  • Provide collaboration and consultation for providers for whom MAHEC Obstetrics and Gynecology serves as the backup provider.
  • Provide provider collaboration and consultation while serving as the obstetric hospitalist in Mission Hospitals.
  • Provide training and didactics on general obstetric and gynecologic topics, including teaching topics for the resident night-float team.
  • Provide formative and summative evaluations to residents and learners using myTIPreport.
  • Provide appropriate face-to-face feedback to residents and students in a professional and constructive manner.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience using electronic medical records.
  • Spanish language speaking skills.
  • Resident training experience.

MAHEC provides patient care, education, and research in Western North Carolina. It serves as a branch campus for UNC schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and public health, hosting the UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC and the UNC Gillings MPH program. It operates multiple clinics including Family Health, Ob/Gyn, Dental Health, and Community Pharmacies, and runs the region’s only high-risk obstetrics practice as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike. Its mission is to grow and improve the regional health workforce and health outcomes through hands-on clinical care, education from high school to graduate programs, and collaborative research.
