Logtek selects Emerson's AspenTech Geolog for subsurface workflows.

Logtek selects Emerson's AspenTech Geolog for subsurface workflows. Published October 6, 2026 Pavel Novak Advanced Manufacturing, AI Research Agent Emerson announced on October 6, 2026 that Norway-based subsurface data company Logtek AS selected AspenTech Geolog, part of Emerson's AspenTech Subsurface Science & Engineering portfolio, to modernize and automate its subsurface data workflows. Emerson said Logtek will use the software's automation and data capabilities to help its upstream customers accelerate the discovery of new exploration and production opportunities. The Bedford, Massachusetts-dated announcement said Logtek chose to replace one of its legacy third-party software systems with AspenTech Geolog after what Emerson described as an extensive technical evaluation, seeking better integration with its in-house developed solutions and support for more automated, streamlined work processes and custom scripts. Emerson said the software enables faster petrophysics analysis, improved operational efficiency and greater scalability, and that it will allow Logtek to deliver existing and new high-quality well log data with faster turnaround times. Emerson framed the selection against what it described as fewer reservoirs being available for exploration worldwide, saying Logtek enables customers to accelerate new opportunity discovery through more effective analysis of existing data. Financial terms of the selection were not disclosed. Logtek's well-data operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Per the announcement, Logtek conducts quality control, data management, regulatory reporting and petrophysical analysis for many of the largest upstream operators across the Norwegian Continental Shelf, helping operators interpret subsurface well data and keep it accurate, organized and effective for exploration and production decision making. According to Logtek's own website, the company was founded in 1997 in Stavanger, Norway, as an independent log analysis company and has 20 employees with backgrounds in geology, reservoir, geophysics, petrophysics and petroleum engineering. Its service lines include log quality control and reporting to the national data repository (Diskos NDR), data management, open- and cased-hole petrophysical interpretation, waveform sonic processing, wellbore data standardization, well log digitizing and consulting. Logtek states that it delivers well-data quality control and reporting services to all oil companies operating on the Norwegian continental shelf, as well as to non-operating oil companies in Norway and international oil companies. The company says it works to improve wellbore data quality control and reporting on the shelf as a member of the Bluebook working group (Diskos NDR), shares knowledge with Energistics, a global organization focused on well log standardization, and follows the ISO 27000 standard in its data and IT security policies. Logtek has also developed internal software tools: Virtual Light Table, used for visual quality control comparing field prints and digital logs; Log Data Manager, for wellbore data reporting and automated generation of information and summary files; a DLIS/LIS/LAS/WITSML/SPWLA editor for log file correction without altering the original file structure; Wellbore Data Overview, for real-time overview and tracking of wellbore data; and Log Studio, which combines those modules with real-time well data communication and interpretation capabilities. Aspen Geolog capabilities and OSDU alignment. AspenTech's product documentation describes Aspen Geolog as a wellbore solution for advanced formation evaluation built around multi-well, multi-user and multi-zone data processing and interpretation. According to AspenTech, the software's petrophysical tools are enhanced with machine learning capabilities, including uncertainty analysis quantification, and a direct connection to Aspen Epos enables multiple users to collaborate simultaneously on the same project, supporting projects of more than 10,000 wells. The AspenTech Subsurface Connector provides bi-directional exchange of large amounts of wellbore data with third-party applications through the OSDU Data Platform, and the software's flexible, modular design lets users incorporate proprietary algorithms to tailor processing and interpretation workflows. AspenTech states that Aspen Geolog is in operation at 90% of the top-producing oil companies worldwide and has long been considered the industry standard for advanced petrophysical analysis and formation evaluation. The wider Subsurface Science & Engineering suite also includes seismic products such as Aspen Echos, SeisEarth and EarthStudy 360, and reservoir products such as Aspen SKUA, RMS and Tempest, alongside the well-solutions group that contains Aspen Geolog, according to AspenTech's product pages. Emerson said the OSDU Data Platform has emerged in recent years as an open-source reference architecture for the energy industry to manage and access data, and that products in the AspenTech Subsurface Science & Engineering portfolio, including AspenTech Geolog, are developed in alignment with it, ensuring greater interoperability and data management across Logtek's workflows. According to the announcement, Logtek and Petroware have together performed proof-of-concept projects with many of the largest energy companies in Norway, focused on real-world implementations of the OSDU standard to streamline data management processes, enhance collaboration and drive operational efficiency. Emerson described AspenTech Geolog as uniquely equipped to handle large multi-well, multi-user data sets within one project, supporting data-driven decision making and open data standards so Logtek can integrate with existing solutions. While Emerson's announcement refers to Petroware as Logtek's sister company, Petroware's own website describes Petroware AS as a subsidiary of Logtek AS, established in Stavanger in 2013 to support its parent company's operations in well log quality control, petrophysical interpretation, data management and authority reporting. According to the site, Logtek expanded into real-time services in 2014 and acquired the technology of the open-source jwitsml.org project, which was added to the Petroware portfolio, and Petroware's software has been available for commercial license since 2017, including the Log Studio well log analysis platform, the Log I/O library for accessing well log data and JWitsml for accessing WITSML real-time servers. "To successfully optimize our internal solutions, we needed a tool with the right balance of sophisticated technical features and flexibility, allowing us to continue delivering the high-quality data we are known for, with greater efficiency and automation," said Lars J. Fjell, chairman of the board at Logtek. Fjell said working closely with Emerson will strengthen the company's data precision and operational efficiency in a way that will help customers with stronger exploration and production decision making. "Maximizing the value of existing subsurface data has become essential for upstream operators navigating today's industry challenges," said Vikas Dhole, senior vice president of modeling and optimization with Emerson's Aspen Technology business. Dhole said Logtek's industry leadership in ensuring access to high-quality petrophysical data, combined with Emerson's advanced automation capabilities, will give Logtek customers an important advantage in using data to advance their business. AspenTech launches training for new engineers.

AspenTech launches training for new engineers. By Grace Bennett September 2, 2026 Aspen Technology has unveiled a new industry domain training initiative designed to help companies operating in asset-intensive sectors integrate fresh engineering talent. Aimed at recently-graduated engineers, the program targets specialized roles such as process engineers, control engineers, reliability engineers, supply chain planners, and cost estimators. The timing of the announcement reflects a broader shift in the industrial workforce. As experienced professionals retire, a new wave of talent is entering the field. A recent survey titled Gaps in the Energy Workforce, conducted by the Centre for Energy Workforce Development, found a significant increase in younger professionals. The data shows that 43 percent of technicians and 25 percent of engineers in the energy sector are under the age of 32. David Reumuth, Senior Director of Customer Support and Training at AspenTech, noted that organizations must adapt to these changing trends. "To stay abreast of the evolving workforce and the ensuing market demands, it is imperative for enterprises to nurture and uphold their organisational proficiency," he stated. The initiative builds on previous efforts, specifically the sustainability-specific training that AspenTech introduced earlier. The new curriculum is designed to accelerate the development of industry-specific skills necessary for success in the process industries. By doing so, companies can aim to achieve operational excellence while helping the emerging workforce tackle operational challenges. Expert-Led curriculum. Developed with domain experts from Becht, an engineering services company with over six decades of experience in energy, chemicals, and power sectors, the curriculum covers process, refining, and chemicals domains. The collaboration ensures a holistic and immersive real-world learning experience for participants. The training is available in both virtual and live classroom formats. It has already attracted over 1,000 users from more than 150 companies globally. Led by industry experts with decades of hands-on experience, the sessions provide role-specific insights and allow learners to engage directly with professionals to address their unique process-related challenges. This approach mirrors the way mentorship programs function in traditional trades. While the digital delivery offers convenience, the core value remains the transfer of tacit knowledge from veteran engineers to novices, a process that cannot be fully automated by software alone. It remains to be seen if this structure will scale effectively as the program expands. The program has received strong feedback from participants. An impressive 99 percent of attendees from the new generation of professionals believe that such specialized training should be a prerequisite for entering the process industries. Additionally, 96 percent of respondents said they feel better equipped to excel in their roles thanks to the training provided. The new training modules are accessible through a platform that allows for remote learning. This flexibility is particularly useful for new hires who may not be located near corporate offices. By centralizing the educational content, AspenTech ensures that every participant receives the same high standard of instruction regardless of their location.
