Requirements
  • Advanced Practice Nurses must have a Master's degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.
  • Physician Assistants must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners must hold a Wisconsin Registered Nurse License and a Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners must have dual certification in Adult and Pediatrics or Family Nurse Practitioner certification.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners must hold American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, American Heart Association Basic Life Support, and Drug Enforcement Administration credentials.
  • Physician Assistants must hold a Wisconsin Physician Assistant License and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Physician Assistants must hold American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, American Heart Association Basic Life Support, and Drug Enforcement Administration credentials.
  • Scheduling flexibility is required to accommodate changing business needs.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosing and treating conditions requiring intervention in the emergency environment as a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
  • Evaluate quality outcomes for patients receiving care from the team through participation in developing quality indicators and an outcomes dashboard.
  • Perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation, including suturing, splinting, and incision and drainage of abscesses.
  • Facilitate referrals of patients to appropriate community health care resources in collaboration with social services, case management, and financial counseling services.
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations and identify normal and abnormal physical, cognitive, and psychosocial findings.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicate and document information.
  • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and admission and transfer orders.
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the plan of care.
  • Educate patients on diseases and treatment plans.
  • Perform procedures for which the provider is trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record and complete other necessary documents.
  • Collaborate with or consult physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educate, counsel, and assist patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities, and preventive behaviors.
  • Attend required training and meet key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and The Joint Commission.
  • Acquire information on current developments and trends in the Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner fields through educational programs, in-services, professional associations, and current literature.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous advanced practice provider or registered nurse Emergency Department experience is preferred.
  • Additional experience as an emergency medical technician or emergency room technician is a plus.
