Requirements
  • Experience building platform engineering, developer infrastructure, developer experience, Site Reliability Engineering, or internal tooling.
  • Experience building with large language models, artificial intelligence agents, and agentic workflows to solve real engineering problems.
  • Comfort working across infrastructure, backend systems, and developer tooling.
  • Experience as an early engineering hire or founder, or having built and shipped meaningful side projects from scratch.
  • Strong systems thinking and a focus on improving engineering productivity through tooling and automation.
Responsibilities
  • Build artificial-intelligence-powered platform tooling that identifies root causes of recurring operational work, automates repetitive tasks, and recommends long-term engineering improvements.
  • Create an internal developer platform including a software catalog, service ownership model, and engineering portal for microservices and monoliths.
  • Improve developer experience by building workflows, automation, and self-service infrastructure that reduce cognitive load, streamline onboarding, and eliminate common engineering friction.
  • Use large language models and artificial intelligence agents to automate platform operations, incident response, documentation, engineering support, and developer workflows.
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify platform gaps, improve reliability, and build scalable infrastructure that enables product teams to deliver customer value.

Span makes a smart electrical panel that serves as a centralized home energy hub. The SPAN Panel replaces a traditional breaker box and is controlled through the SPAN Home App, letting you monitor and manage every circuit in real time, while integrating with solar, home batteries, and EV chargers. It includes circuit-level control and outage-mode optimization that prioritizes essential loads to extend battery life by about 40%. The goal is to help homeowners save on energy costs, increase resilience during outages, and enable easier adoption of home electrification without costly utility upgrades.

What believers are saying

  • Eaton invested $75 million on March 9, 2026, extending SPAN’s runway.
  • SPAN launched MAIN 16, MLO 24, MAIN 40, and MLO 48 in 2025.
  • Eaton and SPAN expect joint products in Q2 2026, accelerating distribution.

What critics are saying

  • SPAN’s growth depends on expensive installer-based hardware sales, not recurring software revenue.
  • Eaton now controls distribution leverage after its March 2026 strategic investment.
  • If 2026 electrification demand stalls, SPAN’s panel-heavy model faces a funding crunch.

What makes Span unique

  • SPAN’s 2025–2026 panels combine circuit-level control, battery backup, and utility-service-avoidance.
  • UL 3141 certification on October 1, 2025 gives SPAN rare safety credibility.
  • Eaton’s March 9, 2026 partnership embeds SPAN into massive builder and installer channels.

Span Raises $25M in Seed and Series A Funding

Span raises $25M in Seed and Series A funding. Span, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of an AI-native developer intelligence platform, raised $25M in Seed and Series A funding. Backers included Alt Capital, Craft Ventures, SV Angel, BoxGroup, and Bling Capital. The round also included over 100 founders, CTOs, and operators from companies like Slack, Notion, Rippling, and Square. The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts. Led by CEO J Zac Stein, Span is a provider of an AI-native developer intelligence platform bringing clarity to engineering organizations with a human-centered approach to developer productivity. In September 2025, Span launched span-detect-1, a proprietary model that helps teams measure the adoption and impact of AI-assisted coding across all AI tools. It detects AI-generated code at the chunk level and tracks it through the development lifecycle, providing verified measurement of AI's actual impact. The company partners closely with engineering leaders at companies including Ramp, Vanta, Carvana, Intercom, Braze, Writer, URBN, and ClassPass.
