Requirements
  • Graduation in Architectural, Building Trades, CAD, or a closely related field plus four years of architectural drafting experience including computer-assisted design, or an equivalent combination of higher education in architecture or computer-assisted design and work experience totaling six years.
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform computer-assisted drafting with a high degree of technical skill, prepare complete drawings and databases, and use word-processing and spreadsheet applications as determined by the department.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and knowledge of American Institute of Architects filing systems.
  • Ability to handle complex professional, technical, and project-manager-related tasks requiring frequent independent interpretation and decision-making.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, contractors, and the general public.
  • Ability to read architectural, electrical, plumbing, and civil plans and details.
  • Ability to work across platforms and maintain strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and the Adobe Design Suite.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare reports on the area, size, and usage of campus properties for departments and agencies requesting specific information.
  • Take field notes and measurements and perform survey work to produce construction originals and prepare computer-aided design plans for user approval and other projects.
  • Prepare reports and studies including Americans with Disabilities Act compliance and transition reports, space inventories, and other facility-management studies.
  • Prepare and provide computer-aided design drawings for contractors and university departments for construction and renovation projects, and present designs to campus and external personnel or specialists as requested.
  • Maintain and modify existing computer-aided design drawings to reflect facility changes.
  • Develop schematic design options based on the existing environment and identified needs.
  • Assist clients in selecting designs, prepare detailed drawings, and select materials as assigned.
  • Generate drawings for submission to the fire marshal for building permits and submit building permit applications in coordination with the facility project manager.
  • Schedule required inspections with the fire marshal and participate in monthly life-safety inspections.
  • Create space layouts for fire-marshal approval, including classroom capacities and layouts for large indoor and outdoor events and functions.
  • Ensure compliance with fire-safety codes for fire-marshal approval.
  • Return written responses to life-safety inspections to the fire marshal with corrective-action plans and execute corrective actions identified by the fire marshal.
  • Build and manage the university’s materials and construction standards.
  • Develop and install exterior and interior signage, including wayfinding.
  • Source sign companies, value-engineer projects to affordable levels, troubleshoot sign-location logistics, interface between academic departments and the physical plant, and work with University Police and the President on final determinations.
  • Source sign-making equipment and software and manage and maintain it.
  • Fabricate signs using a computer numerical control machine.
  • Coordinate signage design with the university’s Communications and Marketing Department.
  • Provide first-response support for printers, servers, and desktops by maintaining and troubleshooting them before submitting tickets to information technology.
  • Serve as the point person for department staff logons, campus text alerts, MyPlymouth announcements for lot maintenance, and maintenance of the department website.
  • Manage contractors for special projects, including bidding and purchasing, access, stakeholder coordination, inspection, and closeout.
  • Liaise with departments and the town of Plymouth regarding university issues such as signage, property-line discrepancies, right-of-way issues, land swaps, and state signage.
  • Collaborate with other schools within the University System of New Hampshire to identify beneficial projects and programs.
  • Manage purchasing and project budgets assigned by the Director or Facility Project Manager.
  • Maintain the university library of facilities and grounds documents, including drawings, plans, blueprints, cut sheets, and specifications.
  • Assist personnel, contractors, and design professionals in locating, interpreting, and copying facilities documents.
