About the Job

Requirements

  • A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Typically 5–10 years of ASIC/SoC/IP design verification experience.
  • Direct experience verifying out-of-order or superscalar CPU cores, or closely related high-performance pipelines.
  • Strong proficiency in SystemVerilog and UVM, or an equivalent class-based design verification methodology.
  • A solid understanding of CPU microarchitecture, including fetch/decode, rename, reorder buffer, issue/execute, bypassing, and commit.
  • A solid understanding of load-store units, store buffers, atomics/LR-SC, fences, and memory ordering.
  • A solid understanding of L1 caches, TLBs, page-table walkers, and basic coherence concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with constrained-random and coverage-driven verification.
  • Hands-on experience writing and debugging SVA assertions.
  • Experience with industry-standard simulators such as VCS, Xcelium, or Questa and debug tools such as Verdi or DVE.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for complex, corner-case bugs.
  • Effective communication and teamwork across design verification, design, and architecture teams.
  • Ability to work independently on complex blocks while contributing to a larger project.
  • Must successfully complete background and reference checks and provide satisfactory proof of the right to work in India.
  • Must be authorized to access export-controlled technology under applicable laws, or the company must be able to obtain any necessary export licenses or other approvals.

Responsibilities

  • Drive verification for key out-of-order CPU blocks, including fetch, branch prediction, decode, rename and register mapping, issue queues and schedulers, execution units, reorder buffer, retirement, exceptions, flush and replay, load-store units, store buffers, atomics/LR-SC, fences, L1 caches, TLBs, MMU interfaces, and coherence interfaces.
  • Derive verification plans from architecture and microarchitecture specifications, emphasizing speculative execution flows and pipeline hazards, memory ordering and consistency-model compliance, and interactions with the cache hierarchy and coherence.
  • Develop and maintain SystemVerilog/UVM testbenches, including UVM agents, monitors, scoreboards, and reference models.
  • Create constrained-random stimulus and directed tests for out-of-order corner cases.
  • Implement self-checking mechanisms for instruction retirement and architectural state; load-store unit and memory ordering, atomics, and fence behavior; and TLB, page-table, and privilege/protection flows as needed.
  • Define and track functional, code, and assertion coverage; identify coverage gaps and add tests or monitors to close them.
  • Create and maintain SVA assertions for key microarchitectural properties, including preventing deadlock or livelock in the scheduler, reorder buffer, and load-store queue; correct handling of mispredicts, exceptions, interrupts, and flush paths; and correct data forwarding and hazard resolution in the pipeline.
  • Analyze regression results, triage failures, and drive issues to closure with design and architecture teams.
  • Debug complex failures involving speculation and replay, including wrong-path side effects and partial flushes; load-store ordering and memory consistency violations; and TLB/MMU corner cases and privilege/protection issues.
  • Collaborate with microarchitecture and RTL teams on fixes and design clarifications.
  • Collaborate with performance and modeling teams to align microarchitectural behavior and verification scenarios.
  • Collaborate with post-silicon and validation teams to correlate pre-silicon and post-silicon issues.
  • Contribute to design verification methodology improvements, including UVM components, coverage strategies, and regression flows.
  • Provide guidance and code reviews to junior engineers on testbench design, stimulus generation, and debugging.

About the Company

SiFive

Designs and sells RISC-V semiconductor cores

SiFive designs and sells RISC-V based processors and related IP for use in devices and systems. Its chips come as cores and system-on-chip designs built on the open RISC-V instruction set, enabling customers to integrate high-density, energy-efficient compute into products. Unlike competitors that rely on closed architectures, SiFive leverages openness to offer flexible, scalable, and cost-effective solutions that boost compute density. The company aims to grow the RISC-V ecosystem by delivering high-performance hardware that helps customers tackle data-heavy tasks and build smarter devices.
