New York, United States, August 2026 - Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has announced the appointment of Pam Teufel (Pam T.) as Chief People Officer (CPO), effective September 8, 2026. Teufel brings more than three decades of human resources leadership experience, predominantly across healthcare organizations ranging from academic medical centers and community health systems to private equity-backed healthcare businesses. She will report to HSS President and CEO Bryan T. Kelly, MD, MBA. Teufel joins HSS from Main Line Health, where she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer from March 2021 to June 2026. During her tenure, she led strategic HR initiatives spanning executive compensation, retirement benefits, change management, employee recognition, learning, and organizational effectiveness. She also served for four years as a Board Member of the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health. Previously, Teufel served as Chief Human Resources Officer at Saint Peter's Healthcare System, where she helped transform the HR function through new technology, an HR service center, leadership development, employee engagement, and modernization of legacy practices. Before that, she was Chief People Officer at DermOne - Dermatology, Cosmetic & Scarless Vein Center, leading people systems, employer branding, talent attraction and retention, and total rewards in a growing healthcare environment. Earlier, Teufel served as Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Thomas Jefferson University, with responsibility for HR across the university, hospitals, and physician practice plan. As the first functional leader hired to combine these HR functions, she established an enterprise-wide approach to talent management, executive compensation, shared services, and HR leadership. Her earlier healthcare leadership experience includes serving as Vice President of Human Resources at Temple Health - Temple University Health System, where she led HR for a health system of approximately 6,600 employees, and more than four years in HR leadership roles at Scripps Health. Teufel also spent more than seven years with LabCorp, progressing from Manager, Human Resources to Divisional Director, Human Resources, with responsibility for HR operations and people strategy across multiple regions and states. Earlier, she worked with Wegmans Food Markets as a Personnel Representative and began her professional career in broadcasting as an Evening Anchor with Gilmore Communications 1470 WTKO. Riley J. Williams III, Chief of the Sports Medicine Institute at Hospital for Special Surgery, has been named Venue Medical Officer for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He will coordinate medical care for athletes and officials at matches in the New York/New Jersey area, including the final at MetLife Stadium. Dr Williams will serve as liaison between FIFA and local medical providers, building on HSS's designation as one of three US hospitals recognised as a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence since 2014. He currently serves as team surgeon for the Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty and New York Red Bulls.
