Requirements
  • Hold active certification in ultrasound from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Graduate from a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Hold Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • Use independent judgment to acquire optimum diagnostic sonographic information and evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to the radiologist or attending physician.
  • Have knowledge of image processing, image reconstruction, and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
  • Have experience with biopsies, aspirations, and drainage procedures.
  • Have knowledge of physics, equipment operation and care, procedure accessories, anatomy, and physiology as related to ultrasound procedures.
  • Know and use proper methods of medical documentation.
  • Know and practice medical ethics.
  • Have good vision, hearing, and manual dexterity, and be able to transfer patients safely from wheelchairs or stretchers to the procedure table.
Responsibilities
  • Operate ultrasound scanning equipment to produce records of designated portions of the human anatomy of adult and geriatric patients.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of ultrasound experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
