About the job

Requirements
  • A high school diploma and at least 4 years of relevant CNC machine operation experience, or an associate's degree in manufacturing, Machining Technology, or a related discipline and at least 2 years of relevant CNC machine operation experience.
  • Relevant experience includes hands-on setup and operation of CNC mills, lathes, or mill-turn equipment; the ability to read technical setup documentation; and use of hand metrology instruments.
  • Solid setup capability across CNC platforms, with working knowledge of tooling, workholding, and offsets.
  • Ability to read and interpret setup sheets, work instructions, prints, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing callouts.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills, including identifying root causes and contributing to permanent solutions.
  • A valid driver's license for occasional logistics tasks.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the facility and to regularly lift and carry materials, parts, tooling, and fixturing; team lifts are required for loads over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment on the shop floor, use hand metrology instruments and precision tooling with manual dexterity, and read work instructions and inspect machined surfaces.
  • Must meet the ITAR eligibility requirement: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
  • Some non-standard hours, including early mornings or evenings on weekdays and weekends, may be needed; overtime may be available and is occasionally required.
Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and break down CNC machining jobs across multiple platforms, including loading fixturing, establishing datums, setting work offsets, building and qualifying tooling, and validating the first piece before production.
  • Operate using pre-proven programs on documented work and take increasing ownership of more complex setups.
  • Monitor machine performance, tool wear, and part quality using hand metrology instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Identify out-of-tolerance conditions, work through them systematically, and escalate when needed to maintain quality.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, workholding, machine performance, and material behavior by collecting data and collaborating with senior team members.
  • Contribute observations and recommend improvements to tooling, fixturing, and workflow efficiency.
  • Complete production documentation and time tracking in ProShop ERP, including job time, status updates, and production notes.
  • Participate in structured training to understand the reasoning behind tooling, fixturing, and sequencing decisions; share learning and reinforce best practices with teammates.
  • Deburr and clean components, maintain an organized workspace, uphold 5S standards, perform routine machine maintenance, and report equipment issues promptly.
  • Follow safety protocols, including AS9100, ISO 9001, and ITAR practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Haas, Okuma, and/or Heidenhain controls.
  • Experience with ProShop ERP or a comparable production management system.
  • Attention to detail and process discipline, with consistent and accurate execution.
  • Clear communication with stakeholders and effective collaboration with engineers, programmers, and teammates.
  • Reliability, continuous learning, and contributing to others' development.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • May 2026 JAQS Group 1 selection strengthens credibility with America Makes and OSD ManTech.
  • 2026 hiring across additive, CNC, and HR signals active production scaling.
  • 2025 facility expansion to 80,000 square feet creates room for more programs.

What critics are saying

  • Defense qualification takes years; JAQS standards can stall revenue if adoption slips in 2027.
  • Heavy dependence on regulated aerospace and defense customers exposes contracts to export-control shocks.
  • Automation and capital intensity demand constant utilization; underfilled 80,000 square feet crushes margins.

What makes Rennscot MFG unique

  • Rennscot combines LPBF, 5-axis CNC, inspection, and assembly in Woburn.
  • Its 2026 JAQS selection validates defense-grade additive qualification expertise.
  • In-house automation and software extend machine runtime beyond 120 weekly hours.
