Dyson boosts payout to $1B despite tariff hit and profit decline

Dyson paid out £750 million to its billionaire founder's holding company in 2025, despite falling profits caused by US tariffs under Donald Trump's administration. The dividend to Weybourne Holdings, owned by Sir James Dyson's family, increased from £200 million the previous year. Sales fell from £6.57 billion to £6.13 billion, whilst pre-tax profits dropped from £561 million to £511 million. The company said sales took a £440 million hit from US tariffs, though operating profits still grew 15 per cent. Dyson cut hundreds of jobs last year, including around a third of UK employees. Sir James is Britain's 13th-richest person with a net worth of £12 billion, according to the Sunday Times rich list.

Dyson's $499 CameraJet toothbrush pulled from sale days after launch due to water leakage

Dyson has apparently pulled its $499 CameraJet electric toothbrush from sale worldwide, just days after its September launch. The device, which took six years and 38 patents to develop, combines brushing with water flossing and features a macro-lens camera that identifies gaps between teeth within 100 milliseconds. Users reported water entering the battery compartment and devices failing within 30 seconds of use. Consumer Reports' review unit stopped working less than 24 hours after unboxing. French retailer Numerama reported the toothbrush disappeared from Dyson's French website and stores on 11 September. By 15 September, stores in the US, UK, and Singapore had also removed the product. The CameraJet originally launched in US stores on 8 September, with complaints surfacing the following day.

Dyson sales drop $585M as Trump tariffs hit Malaysian-made products

Dyson reported a £440 million sales decline, with revenues falling from £6.57 billion to £6.13 billion last year. The company attributed the drop to US tariffs imposed by Donald Trump on Malaysian and Philippine imports, where Dyson manufactures products, alongside weak consumer confidence and currency fluctuations. President Trump had imposed tariffs of up to 24% on Malaysian imports, later reduced to 19%. Dyson raised US prices last year citing "global economic conditions". Despite lower revenues, operating profits increased from £520 million to £600 million following cost reductions, including cutting around 1,000 UK roles in mid-2024. The company launched a record number of products and invested £400 million in research and development. This marks the second consecutive year of declining sales after 22 years of continuous growth.
