Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • The role requires the ability to multitask, good organizational abilities, and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform research laboratory assignments of varied and diversified nature in accordance with standard practices and procedures.
  • Perform laboratory work related to molecular and cellular biology in stem cell biology and cancer biology, with a focus on hematological disorders.
  • Perform moderately complex laboratory experiments.
  • Perform stem cell culture procedures and genetic manipulation of cells, including retroviral and lentiviral techniques.
  • Perform RNA isolation and reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction, protein isolation, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry, immunofluorescent analyses, and animal husbandry.
  • Perform routine cell culture of primary bone marrow-derived hematopoietic cells.
  • Perform functional characterization assays of normal and abnormal hematopoietic progenitors, including flow cytometry to monitor hematopoietic stem cells and blood cell progenitors in vivo, bone marrow transplantation assays, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections, and tail and submandibular bleedings.
  • Perform genotyping and maintain mouse strains under principal investigator supervision.
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory journal, record and calculate results, and present data in prescribed formats.
  • Troubleshoot experiments and equipment malfunctions using input from the principal investigator and laboratory members.
  • Prepare reagents, restock supplies, maintain cryopreservation systems, and help ensure laboratory compliance for biosafety, environmental health and safety, and fire inspections.
  • Perform other job duties and tasks as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • College-level training in cellular and/or molecular biology.
  • Preferred experience in molecular and cell biology, including sterile technique and tissue culture methodologies.
