About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field is required; a Master of Science is highly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of direct semiconductor package development experience, with a strong focus on power devices such as MOSFETs or IGBTs.
  • A proven track record of taking packages from concept through design, simulation, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Creo.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor packaging processes, including die attach, wire bonding, and molding.
  • Deep knowledge of power semiconductor physics, including thermal management, parasitics, and failure mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with reliability testing standards and methodologies such as JEDEC and AEC-Q101 for automotive and industrial applications.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of new MOSFET packages, especially lead-frame-based packages such as DFN.
  • Create detailed package models using 3D CAD software and define critical dimensions, material stack-ups, and assembly drawings.
  • Optimize package designs for electrical performance, including low RDS(on) and low parasitic inductance and capacitance; thermal performance, including low RthJC; and mechanical robustness.
  • Perform multiphysics simulations, including thermal simulations using tools such as Ansys Icepak and SolidWorks Simulation, electrical simulations using tools such as Q3D Extractor and HFSS, and mechanical stress analysis to predict and validate package performance.
  • Analyze simulation results to identify design trade-offs and drive design improvements.
  • Correlate simulation models with empirical data from lab characterization to ensure accuracy.
  • Evaluate and select packaging materials, including leadframes, mold compounds, die-attach materials, and bonding wires, to optimize performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Work with suppliers to qualify new materials and processes.
  • Collaborate with silicon design, test engineering, product engineering, and reliability teams to ensure package designs meet product specifications.
  • Partner with product engineering and electrical engineering to develop manufacturing processes, troubleshoot yield issues, and support smooth new product introductions.
  • Interface with application engineers to understand customer requirements and translate them into package design criteria.
  • Maintain design documentation, including specifications, simulation reports, and assembly procedures.
  • Contribute to internal design rules, guidelines, and best practices for package engineering.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging packaging technologies, and the competitive landscape.
Desired Qualifications
  • Lead-frame and clip-frame design experience.

What believers are saying

  • FY2026 sales held at US$3.65 billion despite weak automotive demand.
  • IPG grew 2% on constant currency, led by warehouse automation and cooling.
  • Cash reached US$902 million, enabling acquisitions, dividends, and robotics partnerships through 2027.

What critics are saying

  • APG still drives 84% of sales; Chinese JV share erosion already hit FY2026.
  • FY2026 profit fell 23%; impairment and investment fair-value losses already pressured earnings.
  • Humanoid robotics remains unproven; 2025 JVs and September 2026 investments need commercialization quickly.

What makes Johnson Electric unique

  • Johnson Electric spans 30,000 employees and 1,600 engineers across 2026 operations.
  • Its electromechanical platform serves automotive, industrial, cooling, and humanoid robotics components.
