Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A strong background in physics and familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  • Proficiency with computers at the level of Microsoft Office is required.
  • Candidates must be able to lift 30 pounds and remain on their feet for two hours at a time.
  • Candidates must have basic shop skills and the ability to use standard hand tools.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently and collaboratively and demonstrate attention to detail.
Responsibilities
  • Train, supervise, and coordinate graduate teaching assistants across multiple introductory laboratory sections.
  • Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, including troubleshooting experimental equipment and addressing grading consistency and student issues.
  • Purchase, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment while ensuring safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support courses and improve laboratory learning outcomes.
  • Help develop, update, and redesign laboratory experiments and activities.
  • Convene weekly teaching-assistant meetings and handle undergraduate student concerns.
  • Work with instructors of record and course coordinators for introductory physics courses.
  • Support department priorities, including improving laboratory learning outcomes and recruiting students into the physics major.
  • Make minor repairs to damaged equipment in the teaching laboratories as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic graphic design skills.
  • Experience with computer programming and web development.
  • Soldering skills.
  • Credentials in an adjacent field may be acceptable when accompanied by the requisite domain knowledge and technical skills.
