Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12+ years of related experience, or a master's degree with 10+ years of experience; additional relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance at the Secret or Top Secret level.
  • At least 10 years of infrastructure engineering experience focused on VMware and/or Nutanix environments.
  • Current 8140 IAT Level II Intermediate or Advanced certification, including CompTIA Security+.
  • Active VMware Certified Professional certification version 6.0 or higher and active Nutanix Certified Professional or Nutanix Certified Systems Engineer certification.
  • Verifiable experience working within a Department of Defense or defense contractor environment, with an understanding of its operational and security requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of virtualization technologies, including VMware and Nutanix.
  • Strong expertise in Nutanix AOS, AHV, Prism, and Flow.
  • Proficiency in managing Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing systems compliant with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides and National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication 800-171.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain complex information technology systems, including computing infrastructure and cybersecurity networking rules.
  • Troubleshoot network errors and other technical issues.
  • Lead technical solutions from customer-requirements refinement through design, build, testing, and deployment.
  • Document and communicate technical solutions and analysis results leading to recommended courses of action.
  • Provide operational support for VMware and Nutanix clusters supporting the Air Force District of Washington.
  • Design, deploy, configure, and maintain VMware and Nutanix clusters.
  • Monitor system metrics to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of VMware and Nutanix infrastructure.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex technical issues.
  • Provide subject-matter-expert support for VMware and Nutanix infrastructures and train other engineers in their use, maintenance, and cluster analysis.
  • Maintain patches and upgrades for hyper-converged software, applications, and underlying Nutanix and VMware hardware.
  • Lead and support projects migrating virtual machines and applications from legacy platforms such as VMware to the Nutanix platform.
  • Develop and maintain virtualization documentation covering system configurations, security plans, and operational procedures for compliance audits and system integrity.
  • Participate in weekly Internal Design Reviews and Change Control Board activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers to monitor and maintain physical hosts, storage, network, and security infrastructure, reporting issues and outages to management.
  • Use VMware Aria Operations to monitor the vCenter environment and determine future virtualization capacity.
  • Work with cybersecurity personnel, network engineers, and application owners to deliver secure, robust, and efficient solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Defense mandates, including DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides and NIST Special Publication 800-171.
  • Support rotational on-call duties.

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including switching, virtual local area networks, firewalls, and micro-segmentation.
  • Experience working in air-gapped or classified network environments, such as SIPRNet.
  • Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure using Omnissa.
  • Knowledge of the Air Force, Pentagon, and Air Force National Capital Region.
  • Experience working at the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews, and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
