Requirements
  • Current or temporary occupational therapist licensure in the applicable state where services will be performed.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well-coordinated work effort and effectively meet work schedules, including integrating multiple factors that may affect patient care.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of heavy or hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Ability to meet the required vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in an environment involving exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, and cleaning and laundry chemicals.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat patients who have difficulty performing daily tasks due to physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or psychosocial conditions.
  • Provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care, including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions, and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Evaluate patient needs and develop and implement treatment programs for assigned patients to identify, prevent, and minimize physical disabilities and/or pain.
  • Determine or revise priorities for direct and indirect patient care activities based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Collaborate with nursing to update appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
  • Document all treatments according to department policies and procedures, with oversight through supervision, documentation review, and consultation with the referring provider.
  • Submit accurate charges for services rendered using the billing system through the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Provide oversight to ensure supervision of certified occupational therapy assistants, students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in education and training for staff, students, patients, and family members to support appropriate care delivery.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements through computer-based learning, training, in-services, and competency validation when applicable.
  • Deliver pediatric rehabilitation services in inpatient and outpatient settings at Children's, including serving as the primary therapist for children undergoing selective dorsal rhizotomy procedures.
  • Use lift equipment and appropriate patient-handling aids for transfers, lifts, and repositioning according to the patient's profile and safe patient mobility algorithms.
