Requirements
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Applicants must have 1–2 years of experience working with children through camps, childcare, tutoring, nannying, or coaching.
  • Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience leading others as a supervisor or lead.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated experience planning and implementing group activities.
  • Applicants must be able to participate in rigorous outdoor activities, including hiking, boating, camping, and swimming.
  • Applicants must complete a background check and comply with Federal E-Verify requirements.
  • Applicants must adhere to abuse-prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated-reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise a group of campers and ensure that all campers are accounted for and safe at all times.
  • Facilitate developmentally appropriate program activities that promote camper skill and character development, and lead or assist with all-camp special events.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to developing teen leaders assigned to the group.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness standards, monitor individual camper health needs and concerns daily, and share cleaning duties with fellow staff.
  • Communicate personal or camper needs to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Maintain equipment in sound and safe order.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those concerning medical and disciplinary situations, child-abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Live onsite at the seasonal residential camp for the duration of employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous camp experience is preferred.
  • A current state-approved first aid certification is preferred.
  • A current state-approved CPR certification is preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A current Wilderness First Responder certification is strongly preferred, along with documented knowledge of challenge courses and current safety standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations is preferred.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English may be helpful.
  • Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building is preferred.
