Kitchen Porter / Dishwasher

Job Description

Reporting to the Chef and Sous Chef, the Kitchen Porter/Dishwasher keeps the kitchen clean, organized and running smoothly. You'll make sure dishes, equipment and work areas are spotless and ready for service, so the culinary team can focus on great food. It's a great way to start a career in hospitality and learn how a professional kitchen works.

The day to day:

• Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans and kitchen equipment, by hand and with the dishwashing machine
• Keep the kitchen and service stations stocked with clean plates, utensils and equipment throughout service
• Operate and maintain the dishwashing machine, monitoring water temperature and chemical levels
• Keep the dish area, kitchen floors, walk-ins and storage areas clean and organized
• Empty garbage, recycling and compost bins and keep waste areas clean
• Help receive deliveries and store items properly, following the FIFO (first in, first out) method
• Assist the kitchen team with basic food prep as needed
• Follow all sanitation, food safety and hygiene guidelines
• Follow WHMIS guidelines and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) when handling cleaning chemicals
• Complete opening and closing cleaning checklists
• Carry out tasks delegated by the Sous Chef, Chef and/or General Manager
• Perform any other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a dishwasher or kitchen porter is an asset, but not required. We'll train you!
• A strong work ethic and a positive, team-first attitude
• Ability to stay organized and work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
• Reliable, punctual and eager to learn
• Availability for evenings, weekends and holidays
• This is a part time position - with high chance of hours increase (possible full time position in the future)
• Legally eligible to work in Canada
