About the job
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required; a commercial driver’s license is preferred.
- The ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical and maintain a valid medical card is required.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to use hand and power tools effectively are required.
- The candidate must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, travel to project sites as needed, and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 75 pounds and working at heights.
- The candidate must be able to safely use ladders, climbing gear, or bucket trucks to work at heights up to 25–30 feet.
- The candidate must follow safety procedures, including personal protective equipment, traffic control, and fall protection requirements.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of aerial fiber optic and coaxial cables.
- Support cable lashing, strand placement, and installation of pole hardware.
- Learn and assist with basic fiber splicing and troubleshooting under supervision.
- Read and follow work orders, maps, and construction prints.
- Participate in training and mentorship to develop technical skills and industry knowledge.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to after-hours service needs or emergency repairs as required.
- One to two years of experience in telecommunications, broadband, or construction is preferred.
- An Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10- or 30-hour certification and First Aid/CPR are preferred.
- Fiber or cable construction training certification is preferred.
- Experience with geographic information system field tools or digital job tracking systems is preferred.
