  • A strong hands-on background designing and operating highly available, cloud-native distributed systems, with the ability to engage deeply in architectural reviews and evaluate technical proposals.
  • Deep familiarity with AWS ecosystems, including Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB, and Kafka; microservices patterns; and infrastructure-as-code practices, including Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Demonstrated experience driving AI tool adoption within an engineering team and articulating a vision for how AI accelerates delivery and quality.
  • A proven track record of shipping complex software products on time and at high quality, with experience using agile methodologies and data-driven measures of team health and productivity.
  • A track record of building diverse, inclusive, high-performing engineering teams, with experience in career frameworks, performance management, and growing engineers from mid-level to staff-plus.
  • Ability to communicate technical strategy, trade-offs, and team plans to engineering leadership, cross-functional partners, and direct reports.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships across stakeholder groups with competing needs, balance external customer commitments with internal platform obligations, and communicate trade-offs transparently.
  • Experience owning system reliability for mission-critical services, including incident management, on-call rotations, and SLO-driven operational improvements.
Responsibilities
  • Own the Compliance Domain delivery roadmap, covering customer-facing compliance services, internal platform APIs, and Ops Tooling; partner with Principal and Staff Engineers to translate long-term technical strategy into executable quarterly plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive adoption of AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Anthropic Claude, or internal LLMs; set expectations for AI-augmented workflows, measure the impact on team velocity, and create psychological safety for experimentation.
  • Take accountability for operational excellence, including system reliability, incident response, on-call health, and security posture, and make high-judgment decisions balancing speed, quality, and risk.
  • Partner with Product Management to ensure external customer compliance workflows are seamless and developer-friendly; engage internal engineering teams to understand needs and feedback on APIs and Ops Tooling, and use customer data and feedback in decisions.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain the engineering team; build a culture of psychological safety, candid feedback, and career growth; coach engineers from mid-level to staff to increase ownership; and champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring and development decisions.
  • Prioritize external product features, internal platform needs, and Ops Tooling investments across stakeholder requests, and align resources to the highest-impact work.
  • Communicate team strategy, progress, and risks to engineering leadership and cross-functional partners, and author team plans, post-mortems, and decision documents.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Compliance Domain and stakeholders; manage relationships with Product Management, external-facing teams, and internal engineering teams; communicate roadmap plans, surface trade-offs, negotiate priorities, and provide visibility into team delivery and rationale.
  • Model integrity, encourage engineers to raise concerns and surface problems early, and hold the team to high ethical standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading a team that builds internal platforms or operational tooling for other engineering teams, with a product mindset toward internal customers.
  • Experience growing and evolving a team through change, including onboarding engineers, reshaping team processes, and managing through ambiguity.

About the company

Twilio builds cloud software that lets businesses add text messages, phone calls, email, and identity checks to their own apps and websites through code their developers write. In 2011, Uber moved its rider texts to Twilio, which later let the ride app expand abroad without signing deals with each country's phone carriers. Developers call Twilio's programming interfaces to send texts and WhatsApp messages, run calls that people or AI voice agents answer, send email through its SendGrid service, and confirm logins with one-time codes. Customers pay mostly per message, call minute, or check, plus subscriptions for email. Twilio was founded in 2008 and is based in San Francisco.

Twilio shares soar 167% in a year but 40x cash flow multiple hinges on AI demand staying strong

Twilio's stock has surged 167% over the past year, significantly outpacing the S&P 500's 18% gain. The cloud communications provider now trades at 39.7 times operating cash flow, compared to 14.5 times for the broader market. The company raised its 2026 organic revenue growth forecast to 13% to 13.5% in August, up from 9.5% to 10.5% previously, citing strong AI customer demand. Second-quarter organic revenue grew 17% year-over-year. However, management expects third-quarter organic growth to slow to 11% to 12%. The company also warned of tougher comparisons ahead in Voice and software add-ons. Twilio's upcoming third-quarter results will test whether the premium valuation is justified, as investors are betting on continued acceleration despite increasingly difficult year-over-year comparisons.

Salesforce vs Twilio: AI-powered customer engagement platforms battle for market share

Salesforce and Twilio are pursuing different strategies to capitalise on growing demand for AI-powered customer engagement. Salesforce is expanding beyond traditional CRM with Customer 360, Data 360, Slack, and Agentforce. Twilio focuses on communications infrastructure connecting businesses, customers, and AI agents. Salesforce reported encouraging AI metrics in its second quarter of fiscal 2027. Agentforce annual recurring revenues surpassed $1.5 billion, jumping over 240% year over year. Combined AI and Data ARR, including Agentforce, Data 360, and Informatica Cloud, increased 210% to $3.9 billion. However, overall revenue growth remains slower. Second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenues increased 11% to $11.3 billion. The company reported 102.7% growth in non-GAAP earnings per share to $5.90, though this benefited from gains on strategic investments, including its stake in Anthropic.

Twilio raises $150M, integrates AI-music verification, and appoints new CEO

Twilio has announced three strategic moves to strengthen its position in AI-powered communications. The company is partnering with the Sonic Intelligence Academy to integrate AI-music verification into its platform, enabling developers to check whether audio content is AI-generated. This addresses growing demand for content authenticity as regulators push for provenance tools. Twilio raised $150 million in new funding to accelerate development of AI-enhanced APIs, expand globally, and improve infrastructure resilience. The capital will support features like real-time language translation and sentiment analysis. The firm also appointed Maya Patel as CEO. Patel brings 15 years of experience from IBM, Amazon Web Services, and Accenture, with expertise in AI ethics and scaling global platforms in regulated industries.

Twilio brings AI customer engagement tools to Latin America amid fierce competition

Twilio has unveiled new AI-powered customer engagement platform capabilities for Latin America, aiming to address persistent communication challenges in customer service. The company is introducing four features: Agent Connect, Conversation Orchestrator, Conversation Memory, and Conversation Intelligence, designed to maintain conversation continuity across different channels and touchpoints. A Twilio Customer Insights Series report revealed nearly all surveyed businesses struggle with understanding customer preferences and unifying data across channels. For Q3, Twilio projects revenue between $1.505 billion and $1.515 billion, representing 16% to 16.5% growth year-over-year, with organic revenue growth expected at 11% to 12%. However, analysts note risks from intense competition with Zendesk, Salesforce, and cloud providers, alongside exposure to Latin America's economic uncertainties and regulatory challenges.

Twilio stock soars 57% in 2025 as AI tools drive 22% revenue growth to $1.5B

Twilio has surged 57% in 2025, outperforming Palantir Technologies (down 3%) and SoundHound AI (down 29%) as demand for AI software accelerates. The cloud communications specialist reported second-quarter revenue of $1.5 billion, up 22% year over year, with non-GAAP earnings per share rising 23% to $1.47. Organic revenue grew 17%. The company has expanded beyond its core application programming interfaces for voice, text, email, chat, and video communications.
