Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-degree experience working for a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm or an architecture and engineering firm.
  • A Professional Engineering license.
  • Current and active National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying registration in good standing.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Desire and ability to work remotely.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency.
  • Graduation from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology-accredited institution.
  • Ability to combine personal judgment with project information and knowledge of codes and standards to implement design criteria.
  • Expertise in fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety systems.
  • Ability to interpret information in a Scope of Work, Basis of Design, field surveys, and code research.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to author technical Basis of Design narratives, design criteria documents, engineering reports, and other technical documents.
  • Ability to edit design specifications, respond to Requests for Information using project documents and design criteria, and prepare meeting notes.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to and support fire protection engineering, fire and life safety systems, code compliance, and risk assessment efforts.
  • Develop comprehensive fire protection plans and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Execute engineering and design duties to ensure quality products.
  • Lead and mentor team members in expanding their capabilities and contributions.
  • Serve as engineer of record from the concept phase through construction documents and construction administration.
  • Direct and mentor subordinate staff on their responsibilities when applicable.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations, fire pump sizing, and fire alarm battery sizing.
  • Design distribution-system layouts and equipment locations in coordination with discipline and project team members.
  • Perform system calculations and size and select system components.
  • Review shop drawing submittals and travel to job sites to perform field verification.
  • Read relevant project correspondence and maintain project design files.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience with heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning, mechanical, plumbing, and utility systems.
  • Experience with healthcare facilities and central plant infrastructure, including boiler systems and chilled water systems.
  • Experience with HASS or a similar program.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Florida Fire Protection Engineer licensure.
  • Additional professional credentials.
  • Technical writing and time-management skills.
