Homebound raises $400M to digitise US homebuilding with 'Amazon-like' platform

Homebound, a US-based digital home construction platform, has raised $400 million in funding since 2022, comprising $100 million for operations and $300 million in property capital. The company operates in cities including Denver, Dallas and Houston. Founded in 2018 by former Thumbtack executive Nikki Pechet following devastating wildfires in northern California, Homebound enables customers to purchase homes through a fully digital process. Buyers select land, designs and styles via an e-commerce-style platform with real-time pricing updates. The startup emerged as a response to housing reconstruction challenges after the 2017 wildfires, when homeowners with insurance payouts struggled to find contractors. Homebound has since evolved into a symbol of digital transformation in the construction industry, offering faster and more financially efficient building solutions.

In this episode, she talks with Darrell and Jordan about creating an online flow that makes buying a home almost too easy, how her experience at Thumbtack helped her think through the labor logistics, and why she isn’t nervous about the impending economic downturn
