Requirements
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing in English with co-workers and the supervisor.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Consistently follow all policies and procedures.
  • Understand written, oral, or diagram-form instructions and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Adapt to rapidly changing demands and priorities.
  • Use hand and power tools, traffic-control devices, and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers, and other equipment used for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hold a valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Complete training in traffic-control methods, first aid, transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS, and job-related aspects of occupational health.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric tools and equipment.
  • Work outdoors in extreme heat and cold and tolerate occasional wet or humid conditions, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, and frequent exposure to insects.
  • Recognize hazards in routine and non-routine tasks and adjust to avoid loss, injury, or accident; communicate safety instructions; maintain focus on personal safety while using tools and equipment or driving and operating equipment; and wear job-appropriate personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Operate loader equipment safely and efficiently for snow removal and other winter maintenance tasks.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance checks, ensure proper functioning, and report issues.
  • Clear snow and ice from roads, sidewalks, bus stops, and drainage components according to project specifications.
  • Collaborate with the team supervisor and other team members to complete work in a timely manner.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Assist with de-icing and salting operations as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Report progress and obstacles to the supervisor.
  • Set up and remove traffic control as required.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites as required.
  • Be available for emergency-response rotations, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Have at least three years of related work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial or industrial repair, maintenance, or outdoor landscaping.
  • Have experience operating a loader in winter maintenance.
  • Hold a valid Loader Operator certification.
