Requirements
  • A High School Diploma is required.
  • At least 1 year of progressive experience performing direct component-level and/or board-level repair and maintenance on general and model-specific equipment in the medical imaging field is required.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art electronic and test equipment, quality assurance procedures, and preventive maintenance procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of alternative parts providers for electronic or electromechanical equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques is required.
  • Knowledge of computer software-based work-order tracking systems is required.
  • Ability to use vendor-supplied service documentation, technical manuals, and electronics industry parts and specification materials to test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair assigned equipment and related systems is required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and remain self-motivated and self-disciplined is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities is required.
  • Ability to visit multiple business locations, depending on the employment location, is required.
  • Participation in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support is required.
  • A flexible work schedule is required to accommodate early morning or evening repairs as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Complete the preventive maintenance workload for assigned equipment to maintain a consistently high level of preventive-maintenance compliance.
  • Maintain accurate device-control records and enter complete and accurate scheduled and non-scheduled work-order data.
  • Evaluate the extent and source of repairs on malfunctioning equipment and determine cost-effective actions to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Identify and obtain parts, supplies, and technical resource materials needed to service, maintain, test, and repair equipment at the lowest possible cost.
  • Repair defective or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Provide in-service training to clinical engineering service technicians.
  • Provide in-service training on biomedical equipment and electrical safety.
  • Assist with, evaluate, and monitor work performed by outside service providers.
  • Participate in continuous performance-improvement initiatives related to medical equipment use.
  • Review FDA, ECRI, manufacturer, and other device-recall and problem-notification sources to determine whether covered equipment is affected.
  • Review incident reports related to equipment malfunction or misuse and take appropriate actions to ensure patient safety.
  • Attend vendor-sponsored technical training service schools.
  • Participate in upgrade support, special projects, and other duties supporting the hospital system.
  • Work occasional after-hours, weekend, and holiday shifts as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist certification is preferred.
  • Military Department of Defense Biomedical Equipment Technician certification is desirable.
  • Vendor or original equipment manufacturer repair or training certifications, or similar credentials, are desirable.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certification is desirable.
