Requirements
  • A strong network with clients and agencies, and a track record of collaborating effectively in mutually-beneficial ways.
  • 8+ years of digital media expertise, with a sophisticated understanding of both creative custom packages and data-driven audience programs, and experience selling these across various geographic areas.
  • Solid understanding of programmatic advertising, both the technology and sales sides (preferred).
  • An insatiable curiosity combined with the ability to translate abstract concepts and ideas into actionable marketing solutions.
  • A strong creative mindset and passion for storytelling, technology, media, selling, winning new business, and growing existing business.
  • Deep understanding of the digital media space, how combinations of media platforms can bring value to clients, ability to position Business Insider’s products and ad solutions and close deals, including creating custom content solutions.
  • All candidates must have at least a cursory knowledge of programmatic ad selling.
Responsibilities
  • Serving as an evangelist for Business Insider internally and externally and clearly articulating the company’s unique value proposition.
  • Lead high-level relationships with key Auto, Travel and Lifestyle clients and agencies.
  • Develop custom client solutions utilizing Business Insider's entire suite of products including Branded Content, Display, Video, Programmatic, Podcasts, Data and Live/Virtual Events.
  • Create, maintain, and sustain relationships with media agencies, creative agencies, and clients directly while hitting quarterly sales targets.
  • Work across multiple client and agency partners (branded content, video, digital and innovation teams) to deliver successful campaigns.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure flawless pre-sale strategy and post-sale execution.
  • Drive consistency and strategy across cross-functional communications planning cycles, ensuring all stakeholders are in the loop.
  • Serve as the internal voice of the client during planning and brainstorming.
  • Stay on top of cross-vertical industry trends, campaign performance, and competitive intelligence.
  • Serve as a team lead for the Auto, Travel and Lifestyle verticals, identifying industry trends, requesting relevant research, sharing with the team, and leading development of sales materials for both verticals.
  • Translate BI's editorial and commercial strengths into solutions aligned to Auto, Travel and Lifestyle media buyers and close deals, including creating custom content solutions.
  • Represent BI at industry events, partner meetings, and immersive presentations to drive business objectives and raise BI brand profile.
  • Help Business Insider win share of wallet in a competitive set (e.g., NYT, WSJ, Bloomberg, Vox).
  • Identify organic growth opportunities and areas for upsell (e.g., new lines of business, additional budget holders, tentpole moments).

Business Insider hires two senior tech reporters to cover AI and robotics

Business Insider has hired two senior tech reporters to strengthen its AI and emerging technology coverage in San Francisco. Stephen Council joins from SFGATE, where he covered AI, labour and Bay Area companies. He will focus on large language model companies including OpenAI and Anthropic. Council has written for The Information, The Wall Street Journal and CNBC, and received recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists and San Francisco Press Club. Rya Jetha arrives from The San Francisco Standard, where she covered tech culture and autonomous vehicles. She will report on physical AI and robotics. Jetha holds degrees in history and politics from Pomona College and the University of Cambridge. Both reporters begin on 4 May.

Travis Kalanick, former Uber CEO, has moved from California to Texas, he revealed on the "TBPN" podcast on Friday. Kalanick said he became a primary resident of Texas on 18 December 2025. The Los Angeles native joins a growing list of tech billionaires relocating from California to states like Texas and Florida, citing favourable tax policies and business regulations. Elon Musk moved to Texas in 2020, relocating Tesla's headquarters to Austin and announcing SpaceX would move its headquarters to Starship, Texas in 2024. Oracle similarly moved its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin in 2020. The tech boom has attracted billions in investment to Texas, particularly Austin, dubbed "Silicon Hills". Google announced a $40 billion investment plan through 2027 for Texas data centres and campuses.
