Knowledge Road provides special education teacher support services (SETSS) and related supports to K-12 schools, primarily within New York City's DOE system. It staffs certified special education teachers and service providers to public, private, and charter schools, with services funded through the DOE so families incur no out-of-pocket costs. Teachers work as 1099 independent contractors, with Knowledge Road handling scheduling, billing, and classroom resources, while delivering one-on-one or small-group instruction aligned to students’ IEPs. In addition to SETSS, Knowledge Road offers ABA therapy, academic intervention, student counseling, and other therapies (speech, occupational, physical), aiming to support long-term school-family partnerships in NYC.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • NYC’s special education teacher shortage supports continued demand for certified contractors.
  • DOE-authorized services create a recurring government-funded revenue stream.
  • Broader service lines increase share of wallet across schools and families.

What critics are saying

  • DOE vendor or reimbursement changes can directly shut off core SETSS revenue.
  • 1099 contractor classification creates misclassification, tax, and benefits exposure.
  • Teacher shortages and high hourly rates compress margins and constrain placement capacity.

What makes Knowledge Road unique

  • Knowledge Road focuses on NYC DOE-linked SETSS delivery for IEP-mandated students.
  • It pairs certified special education staffing with billing, curriculum, and IT support.
  • Services extend beyond SETSS into ABA therapy, academic support, and related therapies.
