Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Degree for MD/DO candidates; board certification is preferred but not required.
  • Graduate of a professional nursing program accredited by CCNE or ACEN for nurse practitioner candidates; board certification is required if the program is not accredited.
  • Graduate of a master's-level physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA for physician assistant candidates; board certification is required if the program is not accredited or the degree is bachelor's level.
  • Hold a valid and unrestricted MD, DO, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant license from any of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.
  • Have at least one year of experience working as an MD, DO, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence-based medical opinions.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct medical disability examinations for Veterans by reviewing history, completing focused physical assessments, and evaluating how conditions affect daily functioning.
  • Review medical records, test results, and supporting documentation to understand each Veteran’s health status; home charting may be required.
  • Provide objective, evidence-based medical opinions on the nature and impact of claimed conditions on work and daily activities.
  • Use the case management system to organize workload, submit findings, and communicate with the Quality Assurance team.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and specialists as needed and document clear, accurate reports that meet Veterans Affairs guidelines and contract requirements.
  • Manage time effectively, maintain availability, and support timely scheduling and completion of all Compensation and Pension examinations.
  • Follow applicable laws, regulations, quality standards, Veterans Affairs training requirements, and Medical Disability Examination program updates.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and maintain Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance, including successful completion of required annual training and assessments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Board certification for MD/DO candidates.
  • Previous experience conducting medical disability examinations or working in a related field.
  • Previous military experience or familiarity with military or veteran communities.
  • Specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas.
