Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred and a minimum of two years of experience working with homeless and runaway youth is required.
  • A valid New York State driver's license and willingness to drive are required.
  • The candidate must be organized, forward-thinking, and detail-oriented.
  • The candidate must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating and implementing safe, enriching creative arts programming initiatives at the crisis shelter.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate sports and recreational programs with the Youth Development team.
  • Coordinate agency-wide sports leagues, tournaments, clinics, specialty camps, sports-related trips, and one-off sporting events with staff and volunteer partners.
  • Implement scheduled recreational activities and coordinate gym schedules.
  • Create and maintain a consistent sports and recreation schedule to provide residents fair access to activities.
  • Instruct and demonstrate the basic rules of various sports and activities to clients.
  • Promote recreation and sports programs and motivate residents to participate.
  • Arrange weekly advertising of the recreation program.
  • Monitor recreational activities for compliance with established regulations.
  • Distribute, collect, and account for recreation equipment; report damaged equipment and monitor supplies.
  • Provide staff coverage for scheduled nightly program activities as assigned.
  • Adhere to policies and vetting processes for internal and external projects and partnerships.
  • De-escalate client conflicts through non-violent intervention.
  • Maintain Drop-In service hours as needed.
  • Perform emergency runaway and homeless drop-in assessments and provide in-house referrals and assistance with food, clothing, immediate shelter, counseling, support, education, employment, housing, and health and wellness services.
  • Input and track Drop-In client data in ETO.
  • Uphold Covenant House New York's mission, vision, principles, standards of conduct, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience providing recreational support and programming for a childcare nonprofit organization is preferred.
