About the job

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in DevOps, Platform, or Infrastructure Engineering with production ownership.
  • Prior experience formally or informally leading a team, including hiring, mentoring, or running incident response for others.
  • A track record of owning delivery for a team, rather than only individual tickets.
  • Ability to operate as a working manager, spending 40–60% of time on hands-on individual-contributor work alongside people management.
  • Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD systems and modern delivery practices, including trunk-based development, feature flags, and incremental rollouts.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services including Fargate, ECS, EC2, RDS/Postgres, ElastiCache, Lambda, SQS, and Kinesis.
  • Proficiency with observability tools and practices for metrics, logs, traces, and alerting.
  • Comfort scripting and automating with Python, Bash, or Node.js/TypeScript.
  • A solid understanding of cloud security practices, secret management, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience running one-on-one meetings, giving structured feedback, and writing performance reviews.
  • Ability to hire and onboard engineers and coach career growth across levels E1–E3.
  • Ability to build psychological safety so team members raise problems early.
  • Comfort making fair and empathetic people decisions involving hiring, performance, and growth plans.
  • Ability to communicate directly and clearly, including surfacing bad news to reports, peers, and leadership, in Spanish and with working English for vendor and partner interactions.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, adjust to changing priorities, make conscious trade-offs, and propose best practices from scratch.
  • An Agile mindset that favors people over rigid process while maintaining workflow hygiene through well-defined stories, estimation, and clean pull requests.
  • A growth mindset that includes seeking feedback, mentoring others, and continuously improving one’s own craft.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow a squad of 4–8 DevOps engineers at levels E1 through E3.
  • Own the squad’s delivery commitments, code and infrastructure quality, and on-call rotation.
  • Work hands-on with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and observability alongside the team.
  • Run one-on-one meetings, write performance reviews, and coach reports’ career growth.
  • Hire and onboard engineers into the squad.
  • Own squad-level incidents and postmortems, escalating proactively when needed.
  • Tie the squad’s work to business OKRs and KPIs and represent the squad in planning and cross-team syncs.
  • Coach each report’s career growth with concrete development plans.
  • Build psychological safety and ownership so problems surface early rather than in production.
  • Stay technically capable of contributing as an engineer, not only as a manager.
  • Act as a Culture and Values champion for the squad.
  • Ensure predictable delivery of the squad’s commitments at measurable velocity and quality.
  • Remove process, tooling, and technical-debt blockers.
  • Work hands-on 40–60% of the time with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and cloud cost optimization.
  • Keep the squad’s work tied to business OKRs and KPIs, and proactively propose business value.
  • Give the squad a sense of purpose by explaining why its work matters to the business.
  • Identify trade-offs that balance delivery speed with regulatory constraints such as CNBV and Condusef requirements.
  • Communicate clearly and kindly with reports, peers, and the manager’s own leader, including surfacing bad news early.
  • Communicate risks and trade-offs clearly and publicly to stakeholders.
  • Represent the squad in planning, grooming, and cross-team syncs, recognizing individual contributions.
  • Give feedback that helps people improve.
  • Translate external and business pressure into clear priorities the squad can act on.
  • Own incidents end-to-end through proactive escalation and thorough postmortems, reducing repeat issues.
  • Ensure stakeholders can understand the squad’s trade-offs and trust the manager’s assessment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with GCP services such as BigQuery and Pub/Sub.
  • Experience with MongoDB Atlas or other managed data stores.
  • Exposure to fintech, payments, or regulated environments, including CNBV, SOC 2, or PCI.
  • Experience creating or improving on-call and incident response processes.
  • Prior formal people-management experience with a Manager, EM, or Team Lead title.
  • Knowledge of DORA metrics and using them to drive team improvement.

About the company

Aplazo provides buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) services in Mexico for online and in-store shoppers who often don’t have credit cards. Merchants can offer installment payments at checkout, and Aplazo settles funds to the merchant while the shopper pays in fixed installments. The system uses risk models, including AI-assisted credit decisions, to manage delinquency as it grows across ecommerce and physical retail. The company differentiates itself by targeting Mexico’s largely underbanked market and enabling both online and in-person purchases, supported by data-driven risk tools and a funding-backed expansion. Aplazo aims to become the go-to payment option for everyday purchases in Mexico.

What believers are saying

  • EBANX made Aplazo available to global e-commerce merchants in 2025.
  • Aplazo lists thousands of partner stores, including Walmart, Amazon, Liverpool, and Nike.
  • Buen Fin 2025 showed BNPL at 12% of payment preferences in Mexico.

What critics are saying

  • Kueski, Mercado Pago, and Klar dominate Mexican BNPL distribution and wallet traffic.
  • Aplazo depends on funding lines; tighter BBVA or venture capital slows growth quickly.
  • If losses rise and underwriting slips, merchant trust collapses and the BNPL model breaks.

What makes Aplazo unique

  • Aplazo combines BNPL with in-store and online acceptance across Mexico.
  • EBANX integration opened cross-border BNPL for international merchants in June 2025.
  • BBVA Spark raised Aplazo's credit line to $50 million in March 2026.

Volpe Capital partners with Inteli and will invest in startups created by students.

Volpe Capital partners with Inteli and will invest in startups created by students. The partnership between Milena Olivera and André Maciel's venture capital firm and Inteli includes the creation of a physical hub, mentoring, and even seed capital so that students can get their idea off the ground Chat with Read the summary of the article Since it was created, Inteli - Institute of Technology and Leadership - has become known as the "Brazilian MIT", in a reference to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, recognized for training entrepreneurs who create billion-dollar startups - the estimate is that its students have founded more than 30,000 startups that together generate more than US$ 2 trillion per year. Now, Inteli is taking another step to become even more like MIT, even though its CEO, Maira Habimorad, does not like that comparison. The institute created by André Esteves and Roberto Sallouti, of BTG Pactual, is announcing a partnership with Volpe Capital, the firm founded by Milena Oliveira and André Maciel. The partnership includes everything from the creation of a physical hub so that students who intend to become entrepreneurs can work, to mentoring and closer ties with the Brazilian venture capital ecosystem, and may include the contribution of seed capital so that the idea can get off the ground. "It is a very early check so they can structure the project. It is like capital before the angel round," Milena tells NeoFeed. "We want to be close to exceptional professionals who are being prepared in different skills." The entrepreneurship track arose from Inteli's need to give options to students who did not want to do final course projects that followed only an academic line. "We then developed three tracks: one academic, one corporate, and one entrepreneurial," says Maira. Follow Neofeed on social media and get more information. Last year, when Inteli's first class of students graduated, the entrepreneurship track helped create six startups. Among them are Hakutaku, an AI that records, organizes, and improves every decision, idea, and learning of companies; IKKB, a fintech that combines accounts, cards, foreign exchange, payments, and treasury; and Cloak, which develops private execution infrastructure for the Solana blockchain. The entrepreneurship center, which was named Founders Club, now has 10 startups from students and alumni. "It will be improved with Volpe Capital's support. Little by little, it is becoming more ambitious," says Maira. Volpe Capital, whose two funds were anchored by BTG Pactual, has already invested in companies such as Caju, UOL Tech, Zippi, and VTEX in Brazil, as well as in the fintech Aplazo and the healthtech Welbe in Mexico. In its second fund, whose goal is to reach US$ 100 million, Volpe's thesis is to reinforce investments in artificial intelligence companies. To that end, it created a committee to help it in this mission. The committee is made up of Grigori Somin, CTO of Connectly, who led the development of the Gemini platform at Google, in partnership with DeepMind, managing a team of more than 100 engineers; Jonatas Grosman, an AI researcher at PUC-Rio; Felippe Piazza, founder of Leap AI; and Igor Braga, founder of modell.ai.
